I think you mean dock/detach a specific window? In FCPX the entire interface is displayed as a single window with many individual panes. Most can be resized to a certain extent.

Hmm— nothing is coming to mind I’m afraid other than connecting the audio to the original video clip and then disabling the original audio rather than using the built in sync function. Syncing creates a new clip and new clips do not inherit markers from their progenitors, (thus they are heterozygous in genetic terms I believe).

Editing the template requires Motion and at $49 seems like a wise investment here. Otherwise you’d need to make a workaround like you described.

Can you be a little more specific? You cannot edit Motion effects/filters directly without a copy of Motion.

Data rate is too high for non RAID drives. On those specs (and even considerably better) I’d recommend proxy or at least optimized mode.
