Thanks for your input. FireWire are all good when you edit video, but for offloading USB should work. I’m using HD Log (ShotPut P2) for offloading today.

A FireWire disk would require external power. On the other hand I don’t have to bring my MBP with me, just the camera and the FireWire disk.

Will the disk be formatted as FAT32? I guess the structure of the P2 card does match the FAT32 file structure, then. 🙂 (No file larger than 4 GB, etc).

Is there bus-powered FireWire disks?

I solved the issue by just exporting ProRes422 as Interlaced, with bottom field first (as that’s what DVCPro50 has in PAL).

The reason for going from DVCPro50 to ProRes422 is to give more to work with in my noise reduction software.

After figuring this out, I was recommended by the authors (https://www.innobits.com) that I could wery well stay in DVCPro50, but save the noise reduced file as ProRes422, before encoding it to MPEG-2.

Great! Actually your screenshot’s what I was thinking of, but I got a bit confused about the “bypass” stuff.

Thank you very much for your help – but I have never worked with compressor bypassing video (I mainly use Compressor to encode AIFF to AC-3).

I have loaded my DV footage and selected AIFF 16-bit 48 kHz stereo as target.

But I cannot find the “bypass video” anywhere in the Inspector. Neither for the .mov or target?

I think I found it – now I have created a custom preset in FCP with 32 kHz audio instead of 48. (Didn’t know that 12-bit was equal to 32 kHz).

Hopefully things will stay in sync now. 🙂

And should I bring the original DV footage into Compressor and resample, or just the exported AIFF?

You misunderstood me.

I capture at DV25 720×576.

My idea was to encode MPEG-2 with 352×576 instead of 704×576. There’s really no need for full resolution since you have already lost that much from the original VHS footage.

I’ll have a look at Video Purifier and the free Noise Reduction suggested here.

Should have been more precise. I’m not after doing AUDIO noise reduction, rather VIDEO noise reduction.

Any tools for that in FCP? 🙂

It sets the blank sequence to non-anamorphic and if I look at the clip properties, Anamorphic is NOT ticked.

Sure, I could put the clip to the timeline and then set the timeline to Anamorphic, but would that really put the file onto DV tape as Anamorphic/16:9 ?
