Thanks Shane, it’s good to hear. Now I wish that dang camera could be here, so I have something to do on my holiday… (!)

BTW, I was actually recommended to try/buy the HD log instead of P2 Log. HD Log can both copy the footage (up to three disks at the same time) and convert into QT files (you don’t have to use Log and Transfer) or convert to XML files for import in FCP.

Gee, now it’s getting difficult… what are your opinon (both you Shane and the rest of you reading this thread)?

For me using FCP – how should I use P2 Log? Does P2 Log copy the P2 files onto a disk I have choosen? (obviously, since it does verify the copy).

Now I don’t have anything but a folder with P2 content (copied by using Finder). Can I use P2 Log demo on that footage for a try-out?

Have you tested differences in speed comparing the Duel, FireWire and USB? We are planning on buy a Mac Pro, so I’m interested to know if the cost for a Duel when not having a MacBook Pro is worth the cost. (If you have a MacBook Pro, the Duel is mandatory, right?)

I read that too – that’s why I’m asking what to use. I have just made a quick test and it did work fine.

Oops – must I? My idea was that to Log and transfer the footage I want to use to my video disk (disk #2) but only the desired footage. But it looks like it’s easier that from disk #1 use Log and Transfer onto disk #2.

Here’s my idea of workflow:

1. Copy P2 content onto disk #1 and disk #3 (using Finder or P2CMS or similar)

2. Set up disk #2 as capture scratch for FCP.
3. Use Log and Transfer from disk #1 (or disk #3) to copy footage for FCP onto disk #2.

4. Put disk #1 and disk #3 on the shelf.

5. Start editing.

(if something happens, it hopefully will be easy to re-connect the media on disk #1 or disk #3).

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in on this…

I guess I’ll be starting off with the P2CMS as well, even though I can sure spend a dime or thow if there’s software that have features that P2CMS does not.

My first thing will be to hook the camera up using USB/FireWire. Then dump the P2 contents (using P2CMS or any software you or anyone recommend) onto disk #1. That disk is put on the shelf.

Then I dump it again onto disk #2, which will be my video disk.

But here’s the tricky one: Let’s say that I don’t use all the P2 footage in FCP Log and Transfer? Seems a bit waste to have unused footage on the video/project disk. Is it better to use Log and Transfer from disk #1 onto disk #2 (set as capture disk in FCP) and go from there?

Sure one way is to keep our old Angeneux and put it on the HPX500, since both the Sony and the HPX500 are 2/3″.

But the Angenieux is no more than 14x, is about 15+ years old, has a very tired zoom servo which also makes a LOT of noise… so we do think that either the Canon or Fujinon HD lens will be better than our current lens.

But sure enough, we might not go HD at all now, but DVCPro50 16:9 shooting SD. There might even be a very good SD lens out there? But then again… which one? We can spend about EUR 11.000 for a kit with camera body, 4x16GB, VF and a lens.
