Forgot to mention that my mac mini and my iBook G4 both runs Leopard. The G4 in question runs Tiger. Is that the issue…?

Installed extra USB ports on the G4. They work fine.
The camera says “USB DISCONNECT” so obviously something is not working together with the G4.

Funny enough it works on the iBook G4 over USB…. but that’s not the main editing computer. Gah!

Have you done any tests to see if USB is faster than FireWire?

(I guess it is, since USB2 is as fast as FW800 – and the HPX500 only has FW400…)

Sorry Shane, I don’t follow… I tried the HD Log and it did it’s own “renaming” of the four cards that showed when connecting the HPX500 to the computer: NO NAME, NO NAME 1, NO NAME 2, NO NAME 3… go figure. 🙂

But I guess this does not really matter, as long as I always can reconnect my media (from the backup disk) with no worries. And BTW, if you offload one card at the time, all the cards will be NO NAME. How do you keep track of the footage?

OK, I’ll go for the IEE1394device in camera setup, then.

    Thank you, all!

Bright, clear and concise, as always :-). Thanks, Shane. I’ll go for the offload in HD Log (good thing I can do it onto three drives at the same time) and then on my Scratch disk (and not the backup disk!) I use Log and Transfer then.

(but it nags me a little to pay 200USD for a verify function…)

But isn’t Log and Transfer duplicating the clips? Or are they just converted to QuickTime? Sure disk space is cheap now, but it seems foolish to have the footage as both MXF AND QT…

There’s an option to create FCP XML in HD Log, but to be honest, I can’t get it to work. Have just given it a quick try – and the manual is 143 pages…(!)

Forgot to be more specific. The G4 is not an iBook G4, but a G4 with mirrorred doors, a desktop (or rather floortop…) computer.

Not sure what USB-card to buy, I guess there’s not standard PCI slot in the machine?

OK. I’ll have to do some testing then, to find out which voltage that match the battery. I assumed the presets were designed for the specific battery type voltage, but obviously not? 🙂

So the setting only affects the output on LCD/VF and not the footage being recorded? Does the HPX500 always record in 16:9?

I decided to Purchase HD Log (Bronze). The Quantum feature could be a nice thing, although the offload is what I think would be most used.
