[John Rofrano] “As I said, the aspect will be slightly off and generated media will be created to match the SD project.”

I do switch back to 1080i project properties and then do the render to DVD/bluray and have noticed things on the timeline do appear to slightly switch, but if I understand you correctly, if I imported media into an SD project that I later switched back to 1080i, it assumes the properties of the template it was imported to.

[John Rofrano] “Create Proxies with Ultimate S Pro”

I saw that and tried it a few weeks ago. When I applied proxies for a 1 hour multicam project (on the timeline), it was still going after I left it overnight. I assumed Vegas had crashed. How long should proxy creation take?

I am still on Vegas 11 as Vegas 12 has render issues with my multicam workflow. The video skips and jumps unpredictably when rendered out to DVD, WMV, M2T etc. Audio and video remain in sync, but I get these horrible jumps. Reported it to Sony and they closed the issue the moment they released an update. I gave up trying to reopen the ticket as they were determined to close it.

Vegas 11 is my stalwart, and the latest update for 11 fixed my instability issues with it.

    My 2 cents worth

  • I just recorded a 1 hr 50 min performance and popped that into DVDA using the DVD9 template to create the chapter markers, menu and then created the vob files. That’s where I stop using DVDA and use Nero to burn the disc.

I have not had any problems with chapter markers using this method. Yes, that means I cannot control where the layer change occurs, but most of my clients generally don’t card.

In terms of readability, I have to force the book type of DVD9 discs to DVD-ROM in Nero, which ensures maximum compatibility with players. So far, no returns for discs I have burned this way. I also avoid burning at the maximum speed, and burn 25%-35% slower. So for a 6x disc, I burn at 4x.

[Michael MacDonald] “The footage that keeps blacking out is footage from my iphone”

This is a known issue with MOV files in Vegas.

The other problem you may encounter is Vegas crashing with iPhone footage. The only way I got around that was to render the footage out to m2t in another editing program.

My recent issue has not been with MOV files from say, Canon video cameras, but rather with MOV footage obtained from an iPhone. I had to use my dated version of Pinnacle studio to render the files out to m2t so that I could continue editing.

I was going to suggest a soft glow as well. You could also try a black and white filter or try a sepia tone … .

DVDA also appears to be only single core aware, which adds to the DVD prep time. Run up task manager and you will see what I mean. I have had DVDA take 12+ hours to create a bluray iso!
