Nice job. So much nicer than masks in (dare I say it?) previous versions…

Here’s a stack that works for me

Background video on primary story line
Fill video on a connected clip above the primary story line
Key source on a connected clip above the fill video. This clips blend mode is set to ‘stencil alpha’.

(The above is shown in the first screen grab. The next step is shown in the second screen grab which is before I made it a storyline.)

Make the fill and key clips a compound clip and then make the compound clip a secondary storyline to add a trans in/out. Does this help?

What problems are you seeing Tom? I had an issue with a flattened PSD with alpha channel that had a full frame of 45% black with some text and logos overlaid on it. The area of the 45% black looked translucent gray. I rebuilt the graphic with the same alpha channel but added a layer of full black behind everything before flattening and it worked fine. Otherwise I have not seen any compositing/transition issues. I am curious to see what I may be missing. Thanks

Do you mean try WITH cropping or trimming. That will cause the shadow to get cropped. You need to crop or trim first and then make it a compound clip and then add the shadow.

It’s working fine on my systems. For distance the slider goes to 100 but you can enter larger numbers to the right of the slider by clicking and typing in the number. This works in many effects where there is a slider – the range can be extended by typing in numbers directly.

I used to do the same thing in FCP 7. In X just think of projects as sequences. I don’t understand where there’s a need for compound clips. Just cut your footage down in as many projects as you need and copy the trimmed footage into an empty project.
