well if it works like a camera or deck then there will bea dealy. There is an inherant delay with firewire, i believe 7 frames or so,. Doesnt sound like much but it is really noticeable.
I would try the lowest decklink card it you can get it for non PCIx. Or the AJA IO series is good too.

Mike,
you dont need to export a quicktime. Simply drag your finished anamorphic sequence, into a new non-anamorphic sequence. It will either look letterboxed, or squashed. If it doesnt look letter boxed, highlight the anamophic sequence in its new timeline, press return. This will load up the sequence in the viewer, you can then change the distort settings in the motion tab. Aspect ratio shoul dbe either 33.33 or -33.33 depending if it is squashed width or hieght.best wishes

Hi Tom,
we have been importing edls from Avid version 7 to FCp for 2 years now without any major problems. There is sometimes a half frame difference in recapturing using firewire versus using an RS422 port, but otherwise everything has always been frame accurate.Try using a diferent edl version. I believe we use CMX1000, perhaps try grass valley etc..but ours work fine. unless you use lots of FX i dont see the point in Duck, cos you are meant to recapture with that anyway!
cheers

Your clip needs to have adequate room for pre-roll. i.e. if the clip is logged at 10.00.00.00, then there needs to be timecode previous to that from at least 09.59.58.00. You can adjust the preroll amount in the device control settings, but under 2 secs might couse problems.
Also if your tape has broken timecode then this become a major problem. Check the “capture across timecode breaks” in the user preferences, and that might get you somewhere. If the tape does have timecode break all through it i would suggest dumping it down onto another DV tape, so you have continuous timecode.

Can i ask why anyone would ever want burnt in timecode on a digi. If you need to see the timecode then Just turn on the character display and it will be output on the Composite Vid3 output, and the Sdi3 output too. Surely that way you get the ability to have both with and without.

Hi Jason,
the whole problem and limitation of the digidesign software line, is that they only with with digidesign hardware. THe only exception to this is the M-Audio box for Protools M-Powered. Other than that you have to buy expensive and limiting hardware….The beauty of FCP is you can get any number of cards/devices that work seemlessly with it. You can of course just digitise using firewire in Avid, but you wont be able to control any deck unless it has firewire, and you cant digitise in any codec other than DV, with (Xpress Dv).
sorry about that

May 22, 2006 at 12:52 pm in reply to: How many video tracks can be imported into FCP via EDL?However if i understand you’re post you are importing an edl into FCp from Premiere. In which case…
When you import an EDl into FCP it just turns it into a sequence, so you can export as many edls you like, individually, from premiere, then bring them into FCP and play around with them in their sequence form.

jake,
load up the problem clip from the timeline into the viewer. In the motion tab look at the distort function. You can change the aspect ratio of the clip that is in the timeline. I imagine if it is anamorphic and the timeline is 4:3 then it will be set at 33.33. Change it to 0. have a play if this isnt the right way round.FCP has so many setting which makes it very versatile, but sometimes difficult for the new user! Bacisally once you have put a clip in the timeline then any changes in the browser or the in clip settings wont affect the timeline. You have to load the clip up from the timeline, then change it. If the settings were wrong to start with and you have all the clips in the timeline wrong, correct one of them, then copy, and paste attributes to as maany clips as you want in one go.
hope this helps.
