    Hey all,

I have an older G5, dual 1.8 with PCI-33 slots (not PCI-X). I don’t have a deck or a camera and am looking for an inexpensive solution to simply view my cuts frame accurate real-time on a client monitor (preferably using just plain-old component outs).

What I’m finding is that most capture cards require either a G4 with PCI slots or a G5 with PCI-X slots because these base model G5s have PCI’s which are intermittently faulty. Anyone have any suggestions for an unlucky sucker like me straddling the middle?

    Thanks.

At the low end, you could just use a DV camera or deck, & use the composite or S-Video out. If you want something a little more capable, take a look at AJA’s Io product line. They offer 3 models with either SDI, component, or both.

Thanks…good idea. Do you know if there would be any delay between timeline and client monitor with a firewire converter like this one?

well if it works like a camera or deck then there will bea dealy. There is an inherant delay with firewire, i believe 7 frames or so,. Doesnt sound like much but it is really noticeable.

I would try the lowest decklink card it you can get it for non PCIx. Or the AJA IO series is good too.
