and is it that the dots are visible on the DVD on a computer, rather than a TV?
a lot of rubbish that used to be safely outside of viewing area is now visible thanks to viewing on computers.
no need to crop shot by shot.
you should be able to crop your entire show.you can nest it in another timeline, and crop the nest.
if you’ve already rendered this’ll mean you have to re-render the whole show.alternatively you can ad a slight crop when you compress it in Compressor.

one thing that would create that behaviour is if you’d locked your preferences files,
or if for some reason they were read only.nick

i have to say that the Master Affiliate relationship is insanely easy to break in FCP.
i cut some newly imported clips into a timeline recently, and within a week i had lost the ability to Shift F or “reveal master clip”
when this happened to me in the past (FCP 5.04, and FCP 5.11) i got a warning on opening the project.

FCP4.5 plays best with 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.
i dont know what sort of problems you get when you break the magic spell,
but i know going back will be hard.i seem to recall other people having the DV device not recognised thing.

neither Cinema tools or FCP compares EDLs
Cinema Tools compares CUT LISTS, which are made from Cinema Tools Databases.
without a CT database, you cant make change lists.but you should be able to make a CT database.
(What sort of problems are you having)
here’s how i would do it:copy your final sequences into a new FCP project.
select the sequences, then from the Tools Menu, chose “Create Master Clips”
this will give you a bin with all the master clips used in the sequences.
open that bin in its own tab,
and format the columns so you have just the info you need to import into CTexport a batch list.
import that list into CT.should work in theory.
otherwise, take your EDLs to a neg matcher.
they may be able to make change lists for you based on the EDLs
but they too rely on databases that they create and maintain. don’t know if they can make a Change list from EDLs alone,
but might be worth a few phone callscheers,

the this is that in FCP there is so much overlap between the whites and the mids,
they are almost interchangeable.
adjust one, and the other comes with it.that;s why they invented “Colorista”

also worth considering:
whereas Compressor has lots of settings you can tweak to maximise your quality,
Media Manager has NONE.
it will probably do the worst job of up-resing of these 3 options (Hardware, Compressor, MM)FCP5 introduced improved scaling options in the sequence settings.
i’ve no idea if MM taps into those, or notso in some ways you might be best just to drop the HDV shot into your DVCProHD timeline and render
if there are no frame-rate conversions needed Compressor shouldn’t be too slow
if there ARE frame-rate conversions then Compressor would be noticeably better than MM or timeline renderingbut nothing beats the evidence of your own eyes, so do a couple of test, and see what works best for you
