‘No. From what I know of the HD XDCAM it is 720p 1080i switchable.’
Thats interesting as Sony have been anti 720p in the past.
I did hear the price would be less than

Trouble is the Sony HD XDCAM is 1080i but rumour has it the BBC in the UK wants to ditch interlace and go 720P -1080P and the EBU are also in favour of progressive so if your in Europe it might be best to wait .

Those that do video for a living only have to add up how much money they have spent on tape over the last 5yrs + the cost of digitising those tapes to work out if P2 makes financial sense for them.

If people spent as much time on the business of making money in this game rather than trying to design the perfect 24p Super HD camera for $1000 they would have less problem buying ‘expensive’ kit.
For instance we (as in 3 people) have just done over the past 12 weeks 4 fairly easy projects shot on cheaply hired 2 X Sony PD150’s cameras that many people on here wouldnt touch as they are not good enough for them, yet the money generated from those projects exceeded $50,000 which is enough to go and buy a Sony HDCAM camera should you want to work for free for a few months to ‘buy’ the camera.
So focus on the business of making money rather than wishing to save a few hundred $ and if you have no money dont buy rent when a paying job comes along.

It is no good buying a P2 camera and trying to make it work with non P2 memory !

Have a word with Peter Wiggins host of the cow FCP European section (Also worth posting on that forum)

The camera also has compact flash for recording,
and It almost does not matter if its ‘industry standard’ a few hundred $ for a revo drive should be no problem for editing to get footage into the system.
the disks can be re used after editing and archieve.
It is also a quality camera.and it does 25p at 720
Seems to be the most cost effective quality HD camera solution coming to market.
I like it.

September 11, 2005 at 4:21 pm in reply to: New lower pricing for DeckLink HD cards – 4:4:4 for only $1495 !Well i paid for my Blackmagic HD card on its first job the card infact made me money and could give the card away for free and still walk away in profit !
If you cannot make money to pay for these cards within a few days of work then frankly your in the wrong business.
Now is Avid still charging $10,000 for its compressed HD card ?
