    doka15

But doka15 the firestore has to handle DVCPRO 100 High def without dropping frames those drives you show are not upto the demands of High def.

re ‘hobby’ compared to ‘business’ yes hobby it is too expensive but for a hobby you dont need it you have to work with what you can afford, if it is a full time business then $25000 say would buy you a good HD shooting and editing kit that is no more expensive of an investment compared to any other small business in another area of work so instead of worrying about the price of diskdrives concentrate on the business of making more money in video production.

Why not rent a camera and charge the rent to the client that way you get to use the camera at no cost to you and build up your business that way.

Our production company has just orded close to $1000 worth of DV tapes for 1 small project, so $2000 for a drive for us to go tapeless is good value and in basic terms it would make us $1k on the 3rd job.

These products are not aimed at the hobby market, if you realy cannot afford $2k for storage you are in the wrong business or not charging clients enough.

I doubt you could do the edit in a day if the camera guy has 5 days worth of material, it will proberly take a day to digitise the footage.

My guestimate would be to quote for a week of editing, so charge at least what the camera guy got, or charge your normal high pro weekly rate.

Ask the client what they had budgeted for editing and what the total budget for the project is apply the 1/3rd rule, ie 1/3rd production fee 1/3rd shoot, 1/3rd post production.

The client must have a budget before anything happens i would refuse any corporate work were the client did not have a proper budget worked out before work started, they would not do work in their chosen field if their clints didnt agree budgets .

If you have a Huge 320R that is fast enough for uncompressed 10bit HD single stream 900Gigs should give you nearly 2hrs so 90 mins should be safe.

Nice lense on the JVC but the hdv compression lets the camera down.

These small cheap HD cameras are not aimed at replacing big Varicam or HDCAM cameras, if you need great lenses and good compression then rental is the way to go for your main camera it is a case of cost effective balance.

It should also be pointed out you do not have to buy the P2 camera if it does not feed your needs but i am certainly very interested in buying one.
