March 27, 2009 at 8:21 pm in reply to: Z Space Distribution with Photoshop LayersThanks for your help. I managed to find combination solution. I probably will end up buying that plugin anyway. It makes some complex After Effect moves quick and easy.

March 27, 2009 at 2:37 pm in reply to: Z Space Distribution with Photoshop LayersThanks for the reply!
To do this manually I would have to move the object in Z space then scale the object up to fill the screen. Correct? I have multiple layers that I want to appear in 3D space during a camera zoom. When the camera reaches it’s final position the layers need to appear as a flat poster.
I found a motion 3 tutorial that does what I’m trying to do.
Ken Stone Motion 3 Tutorial:
Click on Motion then
– Animating Photoshop Layers in Z-Space (Movie) – by Mark Spencer
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/fcp_homepage_index.htmlIs it possible to do this in After Effects without the Zaxwerks plugin? Is there a tutorial you could point me to that would help?
Thanks!

March 27, 2009 at 2:29 pm in reply to: FCP workflow basics; labelling/organising selected shotsI am just curious. Are you billing the client for the 12 hours of capture? If you aren’t how do you justify the time your editing system is occupied?

February 18, 2009 at 9:55 pm in reply to: Acceptable practice in editing interviews?Editing is much like the pirates code from Pirates of the Carribean. They’re not necessarily rules…they’re more like guidelines.
So to answer your question…it depends.
I prefer an invisible edit because it doesn’t jar me out of the story however as an editor I do love a well executed match edit. For example, In Lawrence of Arabia…
From Wikipedia:
“Perhaps the second most famous match cut comes from Lawrence of Arabia (David Lean, 1962) where an edit cuts together Lawrence blowing out a lit candle with the desert sun rising from the horizon. Director David Lean credits inspiration for the edit to the experimental French New Wave. The edit was later praised by Steven Spielberg as inspiration for his own work.”It all depends on your source material, and intention.

Also make sure your sequence matches your clip in frame size, aspect ratio and frame rate. If it doesn’t match exactly Final Cut Pro will do some odd calculations within the distortion and scaling tab.
