WMV export on a mac requires licensing software from telestream.

They offer different versions depending on the level of control and resolution/quality options you need.

In Illustrator preferences do you have “anti-aliased artwork” checked off? turn it on if it is off(it’s in the general preferences). In after effects next to continuously rasterize there is also a quality switch, make sure you set that one to the solid “/” icon as the other setting disables anti-aliasing as well.

What type of file did he/she give you? vector files are typically EPS or AI (also PDF or SVG).

In AE when working with a vector layer from a file make sure you enable the “continuously rasterize” checkbox on the layer or pixelation will occur if you enlarge it past 100% the default size.

Is it set up as CMYK instead of RGB? In photoshop you can see what mode it is in and change it by going to menu “image->mode”

I believe you will also get a lot of or all of the final cut package codecs installed if you just buy compressor from the app store.

They are more or less the same, some might be a bit overclocked but really in Premiere the performance difference will be negligable. I went with the MSI twin frozr III version of the 570 because it runs really quiet and cool under full load. Usually the most affordable are reference cards which follow a standard design set by nvidia, they tend to run a bit louder and hotter than non-reference. Also as it has been mentioned some have displayport/mini hdmi while others do not, make sure you get what you need to hook your screen(s) up.

The gt240 is pretty old & wasn’t a real speed demon when new so I don’t know why you put that in a new build, at minimum I would put in a gtx285(if you have an adequate power supply). Do you have a GDDR5 version or GDDR3 version? If you have to use a gt240 a GDDR5 version would be recommended for that card.

Your hard drive situation sounds iffy too, using the tail end of a drive for projects when it only has 50-100gb left could be causing slowdowns. Drives are cheap, put a couple fresh 500gb or 1tb in there.

Ahh the old office computer without quicktime…probably XP or older… what a pain. You can buy quicktime tools for exporting to WMV on mac from telestream(flip4mac), they have it divided up into different tiers and obviously the most expensive($179) is the most flexible(custom settings & HD resolutions), the cheapest that supports exporting WMV is $49 and you can only use SD presets for exporting. If the client’s office PC has a web browser with flash you could always do a vimeo link (with password protection if necessary).

  • You also have the option now in CS6 to make or modify transitions with adjustment layers. IE: make a 30 frame adjustment layer, apply fast blur filter, keyframe at frame 0 and frame 30 the fast blur value to 0, then at frame 15 key frame it to like 50 blur. Place the adjustment layer above your 2 clips so frame 15 lines up with the cut. Experiment with keyframing other filters and combining with the built in transitions.

Yeah I’m pretty sure CS6’s native 3d is limited to extruded flat planes with bevel options.
