PP CS6 3rd Party Transition effects support between clips??
Posted by Matt Stoltz on June 26, 2012 at 4:20 amso we are now on CS6 -a big advancement for PP. Does anyone know why they would make such great improvements of the program and not support the ability to use 3rd party transitions right between 2 clips.
I have Sapphire Edge and use its transitions a lot in FCP7 -I am very disappointed that PP can’t use 3rd party transitions across the middle of 2 separate clips
This is a pretty big deal breaker for me
Does anyone know if Adobe will make 3rd party transitions work across to separate clips joined in the middle.
I would be a converted customer if PP was able to this
thanks
Matt

June 26, 2012 at 4:41 amHi Matt,
The clips need to be on the same track and they need to be butted together.
Other than that, as long as the current version of the plugin is supported by Premiere, there should be no issues. That’s unless I misunderstood your question…

yeah you can use native transitions in PP like you described, but if you try and use a 3rd party transition effect such as Sapphire Edge transitions -it won’t work. If you want a 10 frame transition you have to razor 5 frames on the outgoing clip and 5 frames on the incoming clip and then ramp the effect on each clip.
very frustrating. Im a new PP user and i have read its been like this for a while –cant believe they haven’t updated this issue.

June 26, 2012 at 2:51 pmHey Bill
nice find –looks like something I could use –But the big question here is –these plugins are FREE and they work between 2 clips just like standard PPro effects –
How come the expensive Sapphire and Boris plugins cant work like these?
Go figure!

June 26, 2012 at 3:49 pmBoris Red 5 plugins DO work in the manner you are taking about. You have the option of filter effects OR transitions effects. Drag the Boris transition effect and drop at the point between 2 clips.

June 26, 2012 at 4:59 pmYou also have the option now in CS6 to make or modify transitions with adjustment layers. IE: make a 30 frame adjustment layer, apply fast blur filter, keyframe at frame 0 and frame 30 the fast blur value to 0, then at frame 15 key frame it to like 50 blur. Place the adjustment layer above your 2 clips so frame 15 lines up with the cut. Experiment with keyframing other filters and combining with the built in transitions.

June 26, 2012 at 7:17 pmA lot of the “Mac Only” transitions are based on Apple Quartz Composer. Apparently, when designing plug-ins that way, there’s no easy way to create a Premiere Pro transition the way we want them.

thats all fine and dandy but what happen to communication between you and bigger companies like Genart to make this right. Ive spent good money on these plugins just to find out that it takes me about 5 steps to put a nice Genarts glow between 2 clips in PPro when it only takes me one step in FCP 7.
Its a real big disappointment for me not to use these plugins quickly. I love your guys products-I use AE and photoshop daily. I was was thinking giving premiere a really good shot but this is discouraging. If ADOBE wants to be the top dog in the market-this has got to be an easier fix than you make it out to be.
thanks

We have no control how foundries choose to create their plug-ins. And yes, it is possible for them to make a transition the standard way, but they chose not to. Most plug-ins based on Apple Quartz Composer have limited capability, and these are the ones you mentioned. This is a beef you’ll have to take up with plug-in companies.

There are plenty of plug-ins that operate the way you’re used to, so choose those. If you’ve spent good money on plug-ins, but you don’t like the way they work in Premiere Pro, be sure to let the plug-ins foundries know that you’re disappointed and file a bug report with them.
