    Hi there,

I received this document from a graphist, done in Ilustrator. Look at the A, why do I have pixels here, although this is vectorized ?
I thought it was ok, but when I import it in AE for animation it’s not good at all… I should have miss something in Illustrator

    Thanks !

What type of file did he/she give you? vector files are typically EPS or AI (also PDF or SVG).

In AE when working with a vector layer from a file make sure you enable the “continuously rasterize” checkbox on the layer or pixelation will occur if you enlarge it past 100% the default size.

    Hi,

I did enable the “continuously raserterize” button in AE.
The source file is an AI file.
Actually, the screenshots I posted are from Illustrator.
The thing is when I zoom far from 100%, like 6400% the letter looks ok. But when I’m close to 100% it looks bad…or maybe it looks the way it should be, but that’s not how I thought vector letters would be.
    I don’t get that.

    Thanks

In Illustrator preferences do you have “anti-aliased artwork” checked off? turn it on if it is off(it’s in the general preferences). In after effects next to continuously rasterize there is also a quality switch, make sure you set that one to the solid “/” icon as the other setting disables anti-aliasing as well.

Anti-aliased is off and the quality icon is on the right side…

The problem is in Illustrator. When I use the Text tool and write something, my text looks good.

The problem is the path itself, from the graphic designer. Maybe he used a bad font, or he did something wrong with the vectorization.

He made several text with different font each time. Some are bad like the one I showed you, but some are good…

I think I should try to talk about it wth him now…

    Thanks

Something many graphic artists don’t understand is that just because a file is saved in Illustrator, it’s not necessarily a vector-based file. I’ve requested vector-based artwork from people, and had the same nasty looking results, only to find that the person thought all you had to do was open or import a bit-mapped file into Illustrator, and save it as an eps or ai file, and it was now vector-based. This is not the case, and it may be what you’re dealing with.
