I’m trying to find good settings for playback on a PC. I’m using Premiere Pro 5.5 on a Mac (and will soon be using CS6).

I just exported a video using the “H.264” format; the person trying to play it on a PC reports that it won’t playback. They don’t have Quicktime installed (and probably won’t be able to since it’s a company computer).

Is there a built-in, compressed, codec suitable for playback in Windows Media Player? I thought an H.264 file would work on a PC.

Ahh the old office computer without quicktime…probably XP or older… what a pain. You can buy quicktime tools for exporting to WMV on mac from telestream(flip4mac), they have it divided up into different tiers and obviously the most expensive($179) is the most flexible(custom settings & HD resolutions), the cheapest that supports exporting WMV is $49 and you can only use SD presets for exporting. If the client’s office PC has a web browser with flash you could always do a vimeo link (with password protection if necessary).

Thanks for the tips. Will a .flv video file play on a PC in Windows Media Player?
