Yes, as posted earlier, make the subtitles in FCP 7. Place different languages on different tracks. Then export that seq as XML.
You then need to buy a software called Title Exchange Pro. This can extract your FCP subtitles trackwise and make STL files foe each language. You then import these into DVDStudio Pro, one STL per track.
Then you need to have a menu with buttons for each language which play the video with the selected language track.

You need not make versions of the video with burn-in subtitles.

I use an Atto H680 inside a OWC Thunderbolt expansion chassis. One SAS port connects to a Codex Data pack (which is a RAID) and the other port connects via fanout 4-way eSATA cable to 2 or more eSATA drives. On some mixed cam shoots, one of the 4-way eSATA ports also connects to a Red mag reader.

It’s worked for months now.

So, Gautam, I guess it should work with your RAID on one port and 4-way eSATA on another.

Hope these features find their way in the Mac version. And I hope you aren’t dropping the Mac version when the Windoze version ships.

BTW will the Win version work on a Mac through Parallels? Or boot camp? And, like many other cross platform apps, will the Mac license permit one to run a Win install with the same license?

Right now my LTO-5 service with BRU is running full. So I may be in the market for a second install. This time, LTO6.

Even if LTFS does what you need it to, you should consider BRU. I have evaluated both and found BRU to be more reliable. Not that I found data missing using LTFS, just that I couldn’t make it work reliably with StoreOpen or any other way with a Tandberg LTO-5 drive.
Maybe LTFS works better with an HP drive.

Bru is far more reliable and there is peace of mind that there is verification happening when writing to LTO.
I believe LTFS does not provide that kind of verification.

I installed Resolve Lite and worked on it for a few weeks. When I needed larger than HD projects I went out and bought Resolve full.

After I had installed Resolve Lite, I had an app called DaVinci Resolve in the Applications folder. I renamed that to DaVinci Resolve Lite.

Then I installed Resolve full. So, now I have two apps in the Applications folder DaVinci Resolve Lite, and DaVinci Resolve.
I run Lite or Full depending on the kind of project I need to work on. In either, all projects are visible. Any project that starts in Resolve full won’t open in Resolve Lite. Any project that starts in Resolve Lite opens fine in Resolve full. But I don’t mix the two.

When an upgrade is available, I download both Lite and Full. I backup the database, just in case.
Then, I first run the full installer and uninstall the full version. Then rename the DaVinci Resolve Lite app back to DaVinci Resolve. Then I run the Lite installer and uninstall the Lite version.

Next, I install Resolve Lite. So again I have an app called DaVinci Resolve in the Applications folder. I rename that to DaVinci Resolve Lite.
Then I install Resolve full. This gives me an App called DaVinci Resolve in the Applications folder. So, now I have two apps in the Applications folder DaVinci Resolve Lite, and DaVinci Resolve. As before, I run Lite or Full depending on the kind of project I need to work on. In either, all projects are visible.

I’ve done this since v 8.2 and through all the upgrades and it works just fine. I have no users created in Resolve and all my projects are in Admin. I’m doing this on a MacPro with 16 GB RAM and a Quadro 4000 card installed.

As in any such things, YMMV.

No I’m not trying to avoid rack-mount arrays though I haven’t come across any which cost less than non rack mount.
I agree about the cable spaghetti with Thunderbolt, but that would be true of miniSAS too, particularly with multiple 8-bay boxes.
I’m keeping the cost down because hard disk costs change so rapidly that it makes no sense on spending a fortune on something that will be hopelessly outdated in just 3-5 years. I know, I’ve helped spend $2 million on a 20TB SGI Stone Shared in 2004, about the same on a 48TB Bright in 2006, and somewhat less on a 120TB DVS in 2009.

Even a 8-bay Thunderbolt or SAS RAID with SATA drives today would probably match all of these for speed and capacity. So I’m much rather spend as less as I need to now, because I’ll need to replace these by 2016.

The 900MB/sec speed limit is just fine since this array will store Red/Alexa/Sony camera originals with the need to initially transcode rapidly and then simply make them available for occasional browsing. Eventually this data is needed to be accessible all at once for conform and export selects. So it can be characterised as occasionally online, mostly archive.

If 12, 16 or 24-bay boxes would have cost less than the sum of 8-bay boxes, I’d rather go with more bays. But more bays for some reason runs up the per GB cost. Meaning one 24-bay seems to cost more than 3 times 3×8-bay boxes. And rack-mount boxes are noisier than non-rack-mount ones.

Thanks for the link to the packager. But that’s for teams. In my case, I will still have to download all over again for my second licence.

And, I knew about the ability to install on two systems. I’ll use that feature on any new system I get in either home or office. But I’ll still have to download everything to that system. I guess its designed this way so that Adobe has an idea of how many times their software is being downloaded.

I run Resolve Lite and Resolve on one machine. Use Resolve Lite to open projects which are HD and simple and I need to continue work on another system that doesn’t have Resolve full.. I run Resolve full when 2k or over, or if NR is needed.

Works fine. I just have to be careful to upgrade both together.
