“…the text layer shifts down by few pixels enough to notice the jump”

A one pixel shift is enough to be visible.

“When the effect is complete (2 seconds long) …”

Have had similar issues myself; one workaround – if you can work this into your situation – is to have the filter active for the entire clip.
When you want it ‘off’ give it its minimum value, but greater than 0.
For example, if you have keyframe a blur off over time, from say 25 to 0, make the ‘0’ value 0.1 instead.

hope that leads you to a solution.

    cheers.

So a gross deficiency in the application!

I’ll be posting this as a feature request to Apple veeeerrry quickly.

    Thanks to all …

“Scroll to the RIGHT in the Browser columns until you find the one that contains the info you want”

I went so far to the right, I changed political parties!

Any more clues? If you mean the column ‘Tracks’, that only identifies HOW MANY tracks were logged, not WHICH tracks. Did I miss a column?

Do you mean setting Field Dominance to NONE?
    That’s under Sequence Settings (Command+Zero)

[JeremyG] “If you are in the bin, you can right click or control click on the clips and choose clip settings…is that what you mean?
Yes, that’s probably what I thought I remembered – Great!

[JeremyG] If that doesn’t work for you then make a key command or button for it by hitting option-j and type clip settings in the search bubble. You can assign a key command or drag the button to a button tool bar.
And I like that, too (and have followed your idea and have DONE that, just now)

    Happy on both fronts!

    Excellent work, Jeremy.
Take the rest of the day, off – you’ve done enough community work, today …
    A gazillion thanks!

October 30, 2006 at 4:13 am in reply to: PSD looking low rez on FCP… why?

Some operators follow the trend of treating video as 72dpi because it has mattered on some systems in the past. Not so, now, on FCP.
Here is what God wrote on page 339 of the current Manual:
Video Is Not 72 Dots per Inch

There is a myth in video graphic design: Since some older computer displays used 72 pixels per inch, all video created on a computer must be at this resolution. This is not true or necessary. The dimensions of a video image are dependent only on the number of horizontal and vertical pixels used in the image. Pixel dimensions alone determine the resolution of a video image. You can easily test this yourself by creating two 720 x 480 images in a still graphics program, setting one image to a resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) and the other to 72 dpi. Import both images into Final Cut Pro and compare the two. They are absolutely identical. This is because video editing software does not use the dpi setting of a graphic image.
Even though the dpi setting for your graphics is irrelevant for working with video, keep in mind that many people may still adhere to a policy that graphics for video must be 72 dpi. To avoid confusion with other graphic designers, you can just as well leave your video graphics at 72 dpi. Just know that there is nothing special about this setting.

October 27, 2006 at 3:40 am in reply to: Can you Render an Entire PROJECT?

[boydmcc] “you can also use the Render Manager to render any sequence in any project, opened or closed, as long as the files are in the current render scratch disk. Go to Tools>Render Manager. I’ve used it, it’s a great a tool.”

    How’s that?!?
I couldn’t see Render Manager able to do anything other than delete renders. It didn’t have an option to actually Render …

    Please explain?

October 27, 2006 at 1:09 am in reply to: ‘Mark to Markers’ function

It’s under the MARK menu; 5th option.
    Keyboard command is ‘Control A’

Its purpose is, in one stroke, to mark an IN at the marker left/before the playhead and an OUT at the marker right/after the playhead.

As I said, it works in a Seq but not on a source in Viewer, which doesn’t seem logical.
So I wondered if it was a fault…

October 23, 2006 at 8:18 am in reply to: 5.1 Audio in FCP

A stereo mixdown of the 5.1 tracks would be a help for monitoring in FCP, but it really depends what you’re trying to do.
    Care to explain more?
(Usually a 5.1 mix would occur AFTER the edit process, that’s why your request is a little unusual.)
