What if you’re working with the ioHD, using Apple ProRes 422 and you want to pass QTs to & from After Effects on another computer?

My current config includes a Blackmagic card, and its codecs can be installed on another computer so After Effects reads & writes in that format, meaning that in FCP, the imported files don’t need rendering.

What would be the equivalent workflow where FCP is running the ioHD, using Apple ProRes 422, going to/from other workstations?

One interesting piece of spin I’ve heard from the mouths of Apple people (not seen in writing, of course) is that Final Touch HD cost a ‘X’ thousand dollars, alone, and you get it in FCS for several hundred dollars upgrade.

Seems we’ll be getting what we pay for, Walter.

If you need to do a lot of DAT work, I have a Sony PCM-7040 for sale.
It is a professional DAT recorder, with timecode and RS422 control.
You it just like a professional VTR.

Whilst it might be easy to reduce myself to name-calling as a response to your comments Steve, I have been sharing with the Cow community long enough, now, to know that the majority of its users are fair-minded enough to know that you have shot yourself in the foot and that there’s nothing to gain by me debasing myself by following your lead.

I have a FCP suite which includes of course, iTunes and some large storage.
The iTunes library contains music given to us by companies such as EMI, BMGZomba and Extreme.
In total, there are over 35,000 songs in iTunes which I can listen to and short list for use in an FCP project.
Once that short list is in FCP, I can play with those songs, maybe edit bits together, try them against the picture cut, etc., to see what tracks I will ultimately use.

When all is said and done, the royalties are paid.

Steve, which part of that is illegal?

Running a music library like this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but getting a playlist FOR THIS PURPOSE from iTunes to FCP IS legal and, at times, a sensible workflow.

As an alternative, I often use the online preview and download libraries that these companies have, which negates the iTunes playlist issue.

Steve, please go and do something positive for the world. Even if it’s as simpler as making a coffee for someone else, and restore some good Karma back to the Cow.

which DAT machine do you have?

What’s wrong with the metering on the Mackie? Is it not enough for you have both the FCP meters & the Mackie ones, to give you the information you want?
My previous system was an Avid with a Mackie, and between the two devices, I was confident of my levels.

(would still have loved a big stereo pair of meters sitting just above my main monitor, at eye level, like the broadcasters use …)
