I maybe getting lucky… I maybe getting the chance to build my FCP “Dream Machine”, but I would like some outside input to consider. Can anyone give me their “Dream Machine” set up. If money was no object, what would your ideal configuration be for the ultimate FCP station. I have to put together a wish list and I need some imput. I.E. graphics card, proccessors, ram, etc. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    D

    Pretty simple…

Top of the line Mac Pro (Dual Quad) loaded with RAM. At least 8GB
Probably the X1900 Graphics card because the step up wouldn’t give much more power.
Load each bay with a 750GB hard drive.
AJA’s Kona 3 or Io HD.
2X23″ Monitors (I think the 30″ is harder to work with than 2 23’s…

    FCS 2.

    More storage if necessary?

Thank you very much. I assume that would be a good setup for AE as well?

    Hi Dave,

I think that would be a good set-up for anything.
We should all be so lucky…lol.
If you do wind up getting it, why don’t you give us an
update on how you like it…but I bet I know the answer…

    Have fun.

Absolutely. Do buy 2 gig RAM chips in case you find you need more later though… Would take a very serious job to need more than that though I think…

I find 3 GB on a MacBook Pro … and 4 GB on the MacPro are great for editing. Not as much rendering when trying to just preview a few clips with effects. But thats my opinion. Also look into some raids.

Do you need to work in uncompressed HD? or would Pro Res suffice?

Drive needs will vary according to the data rate of the video you intend to play back. 4k files take a lot more to play back than something like Pro Res 4:2:2 SD. This is cool stuff the data rates are low enough to playback on firewire drives. Faster drives would do more streams of course.
