Here’s an update. If I render my final comp in AE, the Stroke on effect is rendered.
If I use RAM preview or drag the pointer through the comp, it doesn’t show up.
The obvious problem here is not being able to check size, positioning, effects before rendering.

Dave, sorry for the confusion.
I rendered my signature comp in Lossless AVI with Alpha and the size of the :30 comp is 4.6GB.
Can I use this? Sure. Do I want that taking up space on my media drive? No.
Also, I would like to understand why my prerendered comp of the write on (Stroke) effect does not seem to have an Alpha channel.

Thanks everybody. John, I like the stuff at Video Copilot and the price for the flare kit is much more reasonable than Knoll’s. I will check that out a little closer. I realize that some the AE effects are a little basic.

Thanks Cassius and Ted. I appreciate the help. Here’s my concern though – if the flare solid is 3 times as big as the comp, wouldn’t the flare itself and its reflections also be 3 times as large as normal?

Figured it out. I had converted some of my files to MXF instead of saving the entire file structure of the SxS card to my hard drive and then navigating in PP’s Media Browser. That did the trick.

I found a solution, inelegant as it is, by bringing the MXF into another editing program (in this case Sony Vegas 11) and rendering it as an MXF. My computer did this pretty quickly and the quality in PP looks great.
Would love to know why this happens though . . .
