I think my question was answered inadvertently by the gentleman two posts down – I turned off the resampling and now it looks great!

Thanks Ian. Painful lesson learned. Previous to this job I cut everything I shot, so this type of workflow wasn’t an issue. However it’s not something I ever thought about. Seems obvious now to keep the original BPAV file structure and encode to proper format when needed.
I checked out Episode and it’s a little out of my price range for now. Currently I’m importing the files into Vegas Pro and rendering them out as WMVs. Not planning on going anywhere for awhile . . . 🙂

My apologies. Should have looked around some at Vegas before throwing myself on the mercy of the Cow pros.
Options/Mute all video was the culprit. Not sure how I did that. The d is underlined so I tried to replicate with Alt-D and Ctrl-D, but neither muted all video tracks.
Danny, thanks for the help – sorry you are getting a flurry of thread response emails. It’s late, working on a project, and I panicked.

Something seems seriously screwed up. When I unmute my audio track and go to render as, Vegas gives me rendering options for audio only. It does not seem to recognize any of my video tracks. I have moved the tracks around, added new tracks with new content. I deleted all video tracks then added a new video track with fresh content. Nothing.
I also tried to open up another instance of Vegas, but the video tracks are greyed out and I was unable to cut and paste the tracks from the original project.
Lastly, I tried to open a previous, completed project that I have rendered in another instance of Vegas, but all those video tracks are grayed out and will not show in the preview monitor.

Danny: All the tracks in the project are showing. None are soloed. I shut down and restarted to see if there was a glitch somewhere so I wiped out my undo list. That was dumb.
Curiously, when I have tried to render both a looped region and the entire project, Vegas keeps wanting to save it as a project. It won’t give me any rendering/codec options as usual. Is that a clue?

June 25, 2011 at 4:31 am in reply to: Vegas 10 audio import and audio selection in trimmerThat really stinks. I started getting angry at first but then I thought of a work-a-round. Perhaps you already do this, but I could make different sequences and nest them into my final project.
All my interview video with channel 1 audio, make a sequence. After laying down all the clips i could select channels 2, 3, and 4 and delete.
All my b-roll video with channel 2 audio. After laying down all the clips I could delete channels 1, 3, and 4.
A little messy, but easier than deleting extra channels every time I add media to the timeline.
This seems like a basic function every NLE should perform. On Avid Newscutter, I can choose any source tracks (V1 and A2, for example) to put into any destination tracks.
And why should Vegas 10 import clips from XDCAM Clip Browser with 4 channels when Clip Browser says it has 2? Seems like 2 Sony products should integrate better. (rant over).

I have searched this forum and the internet using various combinations of “sony ex-1”, “sony vegas”, “4 audio channels”, “import”, etc. This is really slowing down my workflow. Any help would be much appreciated.

Apparently not very. 🙂

Didn’t think of that – thanks John.
I have used this borrowed Zoom audio recorder before with no drift while syncing to video that is 24fps. Must have been lucky this hasn’t happened until now. I’ll try rendering it and/or stretching the audio and see what happens.

Mike – thanks. I realized that immediately after I hit the send button and went back to working with Vegas. Doh!
It’s good to know you can always do things a few different ways.
