@John – I figured out that I could just type in different values – just means I have to do some addition and subtraction! 🙂

@Mike – great tip on increasing the workspace size – I’ll add that to the tool box.

I was just playing around with keyframing on the placement tab and noticed that when I created text then dragged the event to change its length, I was still only seeing 10 seconds on the keyframe timeline. This doesn’t happen when keyframing with the pan/crop tab – it automatically adjusts as you change the length. I’m sure you two know the workaround, but for anyone else reading this, here’s what I discovered.

Right click on the event in your timeline. Go to Properties/Media and change the length box to what you need (in my case it was 50 seconds). Then when you go back to your placement tab, you can keyframe the entire event length.

Thanks Mike and John. That was an easy solution. I was using the Pro Type Titler, however. I know that has keyframing but I find it frustrating that I can’t lock the cursor on that screen to my timeline preview window. That makes it really difficult if you’re timing text moves to video but not so much if you just have some text effects over a background.

So, I switched back to the Text tool to use the placement tab. That was the easy fix I was looking for. One small issue with keyframing in the placement tab – it’s less elegant than the pan/crop. I can neither lock movement to the X or Y plane only nor can I rotate the text (not needed in this case). Maybe in 11? 🙂

Mike – thanks for the quick reply.

I only have one keyframe for the mask at the beginning of the track. Also, I had the lock to track button deselected.

I have a list of words that runs vertically on the screen. I would like only the middle portion of the screen to show the words in as they scroll upwards. But the problem is that mask – it travels upwards as well. I’m stumped.

John – never mind. It’s back now.

Last night I attempted a fix by restarting Vegas but I did not try to restart the PC as well. This morning it works after a fresh boot.

Just hoping there’s not a keyboard shortcut to mute or disable the master output that I may inadvertently push again . . .

I meant to say I can SEE the levels. 🙂

John, I didn\’t lose the window. I can still see both the master and the preview VU meters, but there is no visual level present when I play out my project. On the track header (the little box to the left of each track with controls – not sure if \\\”header\\\” is its name), the VU meter works fine.

    Thanks John.

Your recap is the clearest differentiation I’ve seen between the Boris products.

Great point. If I’m just interested in basic text extrusion, is there a big benefit to purchasing Graffiti as well? I’m a little confused as to what Graffiti offers as there appears to be overlap between the Boris products.

I just downloaded the Motion Tracker module, so it’s time to play!

Very much so – thank you.

I’m new to the After Effects/Boris motion tracking stuff. What I’m really interested in right now is learning how to motion track text.

I did watch both your tutorial and the ones on the website before I downloaded the trial version. Being a newbie, I didn’t realize there wasn’t a difference between text, photos, and stills as it relates to motion tracking.

Also, I didn’t realize I could do that with Match Move. The motion tracking piece of Continuum is $199 as opposed to $995 for Red or even $595 for Continuum Complete. The only downside is Continuum Motion Tracking doesn’t include text. So I would need to purchase Graffiti to create extrusions. Is it possible to use Pro Type Titler or the Text tool in Vegas to generate text to then apply motion tracking data to all inside of Vegas? If that’s the case, I’ll take a very serious look at that purchase.

    Thanks John.

Thanks John and Mike. I hadn’t played around with that aspect of Vegas before. I had opened long interview projects in another project and used the trimmer window to pick and edit my bites. This means I can save multitrack lower thirds and full page graphics as their own project. The new project is not as clogged up (visually) with as many video tracks. Also, I really like Vegas 10’s ability to group tracks. Thanks again.

Mike – I\\\’m running Vegas 10.c in 64 bit mode on a Windows 7 machine. Sometimes it hangs briefly and does some goofy stuff. Maybe a shutdown/restart would help.

John – thanks for the suggestion. I had thought of that but was looking for a more \”elegant\” solution. Perhaps I should just create all graphics I might reuse in their own project and nest that in whatever project I need. I haven\’t really played around with nested sequences, but does that collapse everything to 1 track, making it impossible to change generated media?
