Forgive my ignorance as I couldn’t seem to find the exact answers to these questions:

    1) How do I set up Vegas 10 to only import the two tracks (instead of 4) I recorded in camera? I’m using an EX-1 and recording a wireless mic on one channel and the camera shotgun on the other. I use the Sony SXS reader and the XDCam CLip Browser to capture the video to my computer. I don’t see any options in Clip Browser. The only thing I see in Vegas is in Options/Preferences/General/Import Stereo as Dual Mono. However, the box was unchecked originally. When I grab a clip and drag it to the timeline, Vegas creates 4 channels. 1 and 2 contain my camera-recorded tracks. The other 2 are blank.

    2) How do I select video and one channel of audio in the trimmer tool? I have had Vegas 8-10 but haven’t really had a long project where this was needed until now. I have used Avid Newcutter and Final Cut Pro, so I’m looking for a way to enable/disable the track in the timeline. I’m perfectly willing to learn the “Vegas way”, if there is one.

    Many thanks.

    Help, anyone?

I have searched this forum and the internet using various combinations of “sony ex-1”, “sony vegas”, “4 audio channels”, “import”, etc. This is really slowing down my workflow. Any help would be much appreciated.

    1. My department recently acquired a Tricaster and I quite often run into the same situation as you are.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to import tracks 1 and 2 only.

    2. Unfortunately you can’t.
This sounds like a great idea though so make a suggestion to Sony for implementation in a future release.

That really stinks. I started getting angry at first but then I thought of a work-a-round. Perhaps you already do this, but I could make different sequences and nest them into my final project.

All my interview video with channel 1 audio, make a sequence. After laying down all the clips i could select channels 2, 3, and 4 and delete.

All my b-roll video with channel 2 audio. After laying down all the clips I could delete channels 1, 3, and 4.

A little messy, but easier than deleting extra channels every time I add media to the timeline.

This seems like a basic function every NLE should perform. On Avid Newscutter, I can choose any source tracks (V1 and A2, for example) to put into any destination tracks.

And why should Vegas 10 import clips from XDCAM Clip Browser with 4 channels when Clip Browser says it has 2? Seems like 2 Sony products should integrate better. (rant over).
