Yes we understand the P2 is special, and that is why we love it..

It is my understanding that it is select flash memory wired in a Raid array..

I have yet to see a Military spec for P2 ruggedness..

So you can build sata flash drives of 96 to 2TB for your computer….. How long before somebody starts selling the “How Too + kit” to build your own P2? A year…

And a Firestore with 96GB of flash at 1080 speeds could be pretty awesome right now..

I have mine hooked up to a 24′ Westinghouse monitor and it is just fine…

The trouble is so far the only way I have found to get the “menu bar” (the top of the screen) on the 24′ monitor is to run both screens as a mirror…. IS there another way???

So all your tool menus are on the 15″ MBP screen…. it makes for a very clumsy work flow..

I have moved the windows around to all sorts of configs ,,, just too clumsy…..

Unless you can get your menu bar, time line, preview and canvas on the big screen and maybe the FCP browser, favs window on the MBP screen…. but how…. is it just another button away…… SHANE where are you…….

Don’t retire your G5 yet…. I purchased the 2.4 15inch last December and Shane is right, it runs circles around my G4 Dual gig….. BUT, with big edits that take long hours a 15 inch screen will leave your eyes begging for mercy. And trying to perfect a chroma key on a 15′ screen will never happen.

I am just waiting for June and Apples next upgrades to purchase a new MacPro.

What you describe is why I am investing in P2..

4 x HPX500s SDI into Pansonics new 400 switcher and then recorded via firewire to a FCP MBP to sata mirrored drives. The Panasonic switcher has FW out.. To ISO the cameras add P@ cards to them…

I am having the same thoughts Canon or Fujinon… My old Sony M7 had a Fuji and my newer Sony DXC35 has a Canon.. Our Canon is the better lens, but it is also about 15 years newer, so you would expect improvement….

We are getting the HPX500 also, so which lens Fujinon, Canon or none,,,( just use my old SD lens.). I like what I have read about CAC, it makes sense.. I know I want a wide lens with a 2x extender…. But what brand???? Over on DVXuser.com they have had a BIG discussion on using SD lenses on the HPX500.. But I can just hear the client “is that an HD Lens”

And with a couple more jobs I would like to invest in the Lettus 35 adapter for the HPX500 which takes different lenses…..

So, what is the average self employed video shooter to do????

New gear that defines chapters in our Professional Life, are great,

.. being a sell it, write it, shoot it, edit it guy..

I can dream about the client that would pay me to shoot the Red….. but if the Red, moderately outfitted is priced at $30K, or the Scarlet at 6K than it puts a lot of pressure on the just announced gear at NAB… .. So wouldn’t it be great if the new Varicam 3700 P2 was priced to give the Red grief.. talk about nice specs for new gear…. and better yet Varicam and P2 have a proven FCP workflow…..

Ya gotta luv the new toys… is it Christmas yet..
