Or you can build it yourself at 96GB for even less. That said there’s a world of difference between an SSD vs. a P2 card. P2 is highly specialized, ruggedized and vigorously tested specifically for video transfer.

And I thought I spent TOOO much time reading the net….

“Or you can build it yourself at 96GB for even less” So Noah when does the “how too” DVD get released ??

Yes we understand the P2 is special, and that is why we love it..

It is my understanding that it is select flash memory wired in a Raid array..

I have yet to see a Military spec for P2 ruggedness..

So you can build sata flash drives of 96 to 2TB for your computer….. How long before somebody starts selling the “How Too + kit” to build your own P2? A year…

And a Firestore with 96GB of flash at 1080 speeds could be pretty awesome right now..

I think it might be a legal issue with the P2 card more than a technical one. The raid controller and the P2 format itself are proprietary. I believe Panasonic is open to licensing it but so far no memory makers I know of have gone for that.

But yeah at any rate a nice 96 GB SSD offloader would be a sweet field tool. 🙂

Actually at NAB this year, FujiFilm announced their plan to offer P2 cards I believe in the second quarter.

I think that’s a good thing. Whether you buy it or not, the real P2 is cetainely not dropping in price as much as it should.

What ever happen to Hoodman? They announced at the 2007 NAB that they were coming out with P2 cards, but they never materialized.

I’d like it if I could trade up my now small 8 gig cards for more 32gigers , or even 64’s later this year.
When I started in P2 , the 8 gigs were all that were available, now ther’e more of a hassel being so small.
    Cheers
