Go buy a FW external inclosure and add your own drives. If you want the best buy Hitachi, they will keep you crankin. Just remember to reformat/ defragment them between jobs.
I have Weibetech, and Granite Digital, but my CompUSA external FW400 enclosure with a CompUSA removable HD Hot swap carrier was by far the best price and it is hanging in there. $80 bucks plus drive.

Bob, keep us posted with your results. I am trying to wait till after the NAB. And I need to keep this Cinewave humming for another year. So your diary of your upgrade would be appreciated.

Thanks Tom,
Unfortunately my client is Federally funded and can not afford the $2,000 to $5,000 price tag it would take to buy Ccaption.com’s software. But captioning they must have. Any other tricks out there.

The video iPod will be the greatest little sales device you could ever dream of. Now I want the Video iPod Projector so I can show my demo to everybody in the room. 🙂

Yes,
It is doable. But double check your projected time-line and travel / location schedule.A 15″ Powerbook is much more Ideal. Less pieces. And don’t forget plenty of external Hard-drives..

Build It right yourself and save big bucks.. Call your local commercial counter-top/cabinet maker and get one custom fitted.. I built my own out of a $5 auction half rack and a 6 foot dumpstered old main frame rack… and some left over cultured marble counter top pieces/scrap from the local dealer.. The Mac and Medea RTRX are in the half rack, the decks are in the 6 foot rack. But the best part is that I have my 23 inch Cinema display on the desktop (on-top of the half rack conected to the 6 footer)and the Apple display is 15 inches from my nose,,, which means -long hours-no eye strain— the keyboard is in the pull-out drawer with a Wacom tablet and Shuttle Pro on the desk in front of the Apple. I have a 15KDS Lcd to the left of the Cinema display and a Sony 19″PVM on top of the 6 foot old mainframe rack.. Behind the Cinema display I have half a shelf half as wide as the desk top and about 15 inches above, so I can’t knock the Apple on the floor (no Wally drop test here) and the shelf is great for the speakers and visiting clients Hard drives. The shelf has 6 Lacie HDs from a client on it now.. The most exspensive part of building the desk was all the damn black wrinkle spray paint I had to buy to give it that “Industrial Look” and it was a lot of spray paint.. But the desk is great and the editors who have used it love having the Cinema display – Right in front of their nose….

June 17, 2005 at 3:10 am in reply to: For you NEWS experts: best FCP-based switcher/editor solution for less than $35,000!I have been using my Videotech Prodigy switcher downstream of my FCP HD/ Cinewave RT Pro for three years. I have it in my AB Betacam edit suite on a different desk. Non-linear or linear I have you covered. Having AB roll with the Aladin for graphics and the videomedia 32 for edit control makes it great for dubs or long boring corporate speeches that just need titles and credits. Fancy FCP edits or quick edits to betacam SP, DVcam or now DVD real-time burner.. Just keep everything timed to house black / reference and it is great. or a very sweet suite…
