First of all, I know very little about the live switchers used in professional TV news broadcast. I see that Thompson Grass Valley has integrated FCP into their News production equipment:

Does anyone know exactly how this works? I am consulting a technical specialist, but would like to hear from FCP users if they have used this or any other system. Which other broadcast switchers should I look into? Our new TV studio will be making this investment within a month, so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have been using my Videotech Prodigy switcher downstream of my FCP HD/ Cinewave RT Pro for three years. I have it in my AB Betacam edit suite on a different desk. Non-linear or linear I have you covered. Having AB roll with the Aladin for graphics and the videomedia 32 for edit control makes it great for dubs or long boring corporate speeches that just need titles and credits. Fancy FCP edits or quick edits to betacam SP, DVcam or now DVD real-time burner.. Just keep everything timed to house black / reference and it is great. or a very sweet suite…
