I don’t think so. You seem to have reached a technical limit that probably nobody was aware of until today. ;O) Even using multipass rendering wouldn’t help you as the number of object buffers is limited… not sure though, why you even need so many materials with Glow. Glow is more or less an optical artifact created inside the camera and thus would be uniform across the entire scene, so applying it in post would probably do the same for you.

I’ve played with XFrog in the past, but my expertise doesn’t go that far. Maybe ask someone on their Yahoo! user group (the link is on the XFrog site).

Draw you path using a mask and the Stroke effect, animate the End of the Stroke to make the arrow grow. Copy the mask to the position property of the layer acting as the arrowhead and adjust the timing. Enable the layer’s auto-orient to make it rotatet in sync with the path curvature.

All 3D layers are filtered. They will never look as sharp as 2D layers. This is not related to DOF, but to the way 3D rendering works to avoid Moir

December 1, 2006 at 7:20 am in reply to: easy question about alphas (I hope!)

That’s impossible in AE. If you really need this, render separate Alphas and merge them in whatever target application you use (an editing program, I assume).

Use Particle systems like Particular or Card Dance.

Switch from OpenGL to Adaptive Resolution and make sure you set the Adaptive resolution reduction in your preferences to something you deem acceptable.

Well, Floor means Floor and A floor is a flat surface. Particular will accumulate the particles on the collision plane, not the Alpha contours. The Alpha only acts as a grate/ sieve. Sorry, wrong tool in that case. You have to think of other solutions.

It’s not impossible, I think. The SDK/ API for AE is quite complex, but you probably will only use parts of it. I’ve got tons of ideas, but it would take too long to explain them all. If you need some inspiration, feel free to contact me off list when the time is near. Most likely you should create a little universally usable tool like e.g. a color sampler or access to mask vertices or you could write a shape/ pattern generator. I don’t think going to exotic is feasible, as you will need a lot of research e.g. if you were to do 3D related functions and that research would probably consume more time than the actual programming.
