Hi all, here is my question: I want to create a simple animation whose alpha channel is completely different than the animation. So for example, the animation might be 2 seconds of a logo animating, but the alpha is 2 seconds of a big circle fading on and off. I know how to create an alpha normally, just select ‘RGB+alpha’ in the output channels when rendering, but this twist has me stumped.

thanks for your time and help,

That’s impossible in AE. If you really need this, render separate Alphas and merge them in whatever target application you use (an editing program, I assume).

How about making a grayscale movie of the circle fading, then use it as a luma matte for the logo animation in AE?

Hi Steve, the idea is to have a finished quicktime with a alpha channel that is different. I plan to take this quicktime into another app where I need the alpha to be different than the animation. I don’t need this alpha to be used in AE so the luma matte idea wouldn’t solve the problem.

thanks for the suggestion though. Any other ideas?
