Are you assigning proper color profiles/ footage interpretation when importing the footage? AE always assumes full RGB ranges. I would also suspect that there is a setting in the CoDec that can prevent this from happening. Checking in QT is not doing any good. It always uses direct stream conversion in the native color space, so comparing it to AE is a classical apples and oranges example.

Haven’t seen any matchmoving software in a long time and I’m still a fan of PFTrack, but I seem to remember that the LWS is not written properly from Boujou (it writes 1 fps instead of the actual footage frame rate). You need to edit it manually and adjust the scene fps. Should be no problem, since it’s text-based.

Somewhere in the resources (c4dprefs) files.

[Jon] “Does mean the lower the threshold value the more highlights?? And the higher threshold value is looking for a higher white value to hightlight, therefore more precise(and maybe less highlights)?”

    Yes, exactly.

[vicnorman] “Hope this is something they’re looking to fix, it’s got to be because of C4d’s weird h.p.b rotation system (?)”

No, actually not. Works fine in previous versions even though C4D and AE use different roation orders. They really messed this one up, it’s as simple as that. It’s yet another simple example that they rushed things to get out R10 in time for their anniversary celebrations. A little more waiting and testing would certainly have doen no harm.

Maybe you are using some complex grouping/ parenting and C4D doesn’t handle it right. Anyway, the AE export is flakey in R10, that’s for sure, so it could just as well be part of that buggy behavior. Your only way out of it would probably be to explicitly convert coordinates with XPresso and then export after that.

Where are you doing the Overlay? In AE? Sounds like you are working in an edit suite and your imported matte got its levels adjusted to broadcast safe colors (which would make the black grey).

Like Joe said, you need to “bake” all such stuff into the background of the motion graphics/ video you use for the background using AE, Premiere or any other tools you may have handy.

  • Spaces are special characters. You need to work with the character values. Not in front of AE at the moment, but might require some more expression intervention to get it to work. For a simple solution try to add another character value animator before the others and find yourself the spaces which you then can animate to other characters.
