  • Taking AE camera and importing into Lightwave…Has anyone done this before

I was thinking I would some how need to create a .mot (motion file) from after effects camera data but dont really know how to even start converting the numbers by hand from one to the other. Has anyone ever done this before? Are there any .jsx files out there that can do this? Ive done a little researching on the .mot standard below is a good link

    https://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6493

Has some info on how someone went from mot to the md5 format (not sure what that is though:-P )

Anyone able to shed some light on this for me, the COW hasnt let me down yet 😛 im going to post in the lightwave forumn also see what that brings me.

    Regards Chris
PS its me birthday todayyyy so a solution to this would be great present LOL 😛

It certainly isn’t impossible. If it’s really only one motion, you should try to copy&paste – after all, LW’s motion/envelope/scene file formats are just formatted ASCII. It’s always time in seconds followed by the value in SI units. Create an emty motion file and save it from LW (create a few keys to see how it’s stored), then replace the existing channel data with re-formatted info. Just make sure to bake all animation in AE (add an empty expression, then use the convert Expression to Keyframes keyframe assistant). There is no way to re-create LW’s strange interpolation methods other than with baked linear keys. Just take your time and be patient. Using Excel also helps…

Do Al Street’s Transmotion Utilities work from AE to LW?

I wasnt aware of having to bake the animation so this is very useful to know, thankyou.
I guess I will need to do some simple tests and alot of reading on how I might be able to make a script to automate this alittle.

I had hoped that maybe someone might of done this before but hey ho 😛

If anyone else has any experiences on this id love to know

    Regards
    Chris

I had the same question and just found a script at the following forum site:

It seems to work! Good luck.
