Have you deleted your prefs files? They won’t be removed or overwritten during re-installs and may still screw your AE. Another way around this is to log on to your computer under a different user name and launch AE at least once. Sometimes this will magically fix things…

This may be a weakness in AE’s rendering pipeline – in order to time stretch anything, AE needs “handles” that extend beyond the actual area being timewarped (the plugin cannot request those extra frames for processing if they are not physically there). I don’t think there’s any way to avoid the procedure you describe (but then again, I’m not using the entire suite, just AE and soon Encore a bit more ;o) )

Not really. Leave color always works on the currently active pixel buffer after all effects that come before it (in order to circumvent this, it would have to have an explicit layer selector). Similarly other effects fail. Your best bet is to use Shift Channel to extract multiple solid colored portions of your imagery, but there obviously are limits to its effectiveness.

No, even AE 7 does not natively provide access to masks with expressions, trackers etc.. If you search this forum however, you will find many threads pointing you in the right direction. This topic has been discussed several times.

Yeah, thhat’s not possible. As John said, use the workaround with the expressions. There also used to be an experimental feature that could be activated by hacking the prefs file, but it does no longer work.

You could do that, but you definitely need to get into multimedia authoring with director. There’s a DVD player control in Director, that would allow such trickery as you want in 2). Basically what you would do is start a normal program that accesses the DVD’s video/ audio streams. Dunno if it is praktical, though. Quite frankly I’d ask your client what he needs and then create static documents (PDFs) for printing. It’s very unlikely he’s going to need to be able to print every frame of the video. Also do not forget that due to the MPEG-II compression your printouts might not be as high quality as they possibly could be when printed from a PDF or other such file format. No need to worry about 1). As per spec, standalone DVD players will ignore anything that is not in the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories and since any DVD is simply a data storage medium, you’re relatively free in adding extra content.

If you think you can’t manage AE’s admittedly sometimes awkward keyframing, that’s entirely your thing. I know I halfway can(and on top of that also in LW, Maya and Cinema 4D) and the new Graph Editor makes it much more simple, regardlesss of the insufficiencies it has. Perhaps you should set aside your frustrations for the moment and put more effort in managing your tools instead of complaining to the wrong people… You know, you could always write feature requests to Adobe.
