That he could do, but eve nat just 5 seconds this would make 125 layers at 25 fps, which is already pretty much and slowing down everything. I would try to avoid that and adding some expressions and re-using the layers over and over would do that.

Each frame of a movie mapped on to a “card”? That would be pretty much work and indeed expressions seem the only way around this (time remapping and recyclings the cards over and over). Will have to give this some more thought, maybe I’ll have something for you some time later (if I don’t forget).

[mballom] “PS: I saw Brian Maffit talking about a CC sphere thing in the free tutorial CD-rom that comes with the adobe cd-rom, but my copy of AE doesnt *seem* to have any CC sphere somewhere. How can i get this one, anyway if it was to be part of your idea to achieve my plan”

CC Sphere is part of the Professional version. You may need to install it separately from the main AE, though.

No. Unless you have activated auto-save (which by default is turned off), there’s no chance. If you have, you should find the auto-save files in your user home directory either in the “Temp” folder or under “Application Data/ Adobe”.

For the most part you will have to rebuild everything. I’d only scale up things that are based on masks and effects that can be easily brought up to larger sizes without changing the overall look (e.g. adjusting stroke width on the Stroke effect) and export this at the larger size as a template.

  • Use the continously rasterize function (the little sun symbol in the timeline). Yes, using AE#s own text would be better because of the flexibility with animators (if that’s relevant for you)

April 13, 2006 at 9:59 am in reply to: 3D bug/ or human error?

[Justyot] “When using 3D in AE why does a 3d layer below a 2d layer collapse?”

Because AE was designed this way. This is intentional and not a bug nor human error. sorry, no way around that other than precomposing your 3D stuff and then overlaying the 2D parts.

  • [thor64] “…but some sort of universal child expressions?”

No, all expressions have to be linked explicitely, there is no automatic inheritance of parent expressions and the parameters/ effects they drive. Attributes such as layer visibility are read-only (isVisible), you’d have to use the opacity parameter to “hide” your child layers.
