    Hi folks,

Here is what iam trying to do: create a globe and map a picture of the world map on it, make it rotate to imitate the earth, then stop when it reaches a certain region, then zoom in until someone sees the country name.
In fact its like mapping a illustrator layer on a 3D sphere then make the rest of the animation. I am not too into 3D so no way to try stuffs like maya or 3DS. Can AE do that? How?

PS: I saw Brian Maffit talking about a CC sphere thing in the free tutorial CD-rom that comes with the adobe cd-rom, but my copy of AE doesnt *seem* to have any CC sphere somewhere. How can i get this one, anyway if it was to be part of your idea to achieve my plan

CC Sphere is part of the Professional version. You may need to install it separately from the main AE, though.

The CC Cycore effects are a seperate install on the After Effects CD. They are included on non-academic versions of AE 6.5, and all versions of AE 7.

    Have alook at this tutorial:

I did something similiar to what you are trying to do for a tracking promotion. I got a world map from this website….they are really big so it may take a bit to download…

    https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/BlueMarble/

I then imported the still pic into AE and apply the CC Sphere effect to it….The CC Sphere effect has sliders that allows you to control the XYZ rotations but also a slider to control the radius (overall size) of the sphere….Using these four sliders I was able to rotate my 3D earth, have it come to a complete stop and then “zoom in” to a specific area. After the zoom in I applied a stroke effect/mask to give a close enough outline of a specific country. The maps from the website are really big and detailed so I was able to zoom in to get a whole state to be full screen any more than that and I would start to get some distortion and pixelation…
Not as good as GoogleEarth where you can get to street level but still good for my purposes…

I hope this helps out in some way…
