  • Nope. Sorry, you cannot read mask points with expressions and thuis not calculate mask lengths (but Bresnev Shu’s Expression Effects can). If they are rectangular masks, you would simply need to add the 4 sides together.

  • [Pete O’Connell] “Hi Mylenium thanks for the info, I just asked Dan about it cause I think he seems to have a special insight into expressions.
    Bye for now”

Yeah, he certainly is some kind of a godfather in expressions. That’s why we all love him so much ;o).

  • You can find more than enough info on expressions (which are just another flavor of MEL scripts) if you search respective 3D related sites such as highend3d or CGTalk. Gnomon also has 2 DVDs on them, I believe, and Alias themselves also have DVDs. In addition to that the script guide in the online help and manuals is quite complete and much better than any docs AE has on either scripting or expressions. BTW, MEL is more C/C++ like. I don’t think that this would pose a problem for Dan, but there are some noticeable differences compared to Java/ JavaScript.

  • Mmh, if it pops up even on startup (while AE is scanning for plugins), then definitely something is wrong. This would indicate that multiple plugins are affected which in turn could only be some plugin suite like Boris or similar.

  • Mmh, even if you say otherwise, it must be one of your plugins. I’m no programmer, but the message would point to some plugin not being able to read data in the render queue. Have you watched the renderqueue with twirled down extended info? This should give you a clue which layer (and the effects applied thereon) might cause this.

Yepp, other than for post-pro motion blur (and even then you need a plugin/ tool that knows how to use the info), velocity passes aren’t really much use. AE itself has no support for them natively.

That he could do, but eve nat just 5 seconds this would make 125 layers at 25 fps, which is already pretty much and slowing down everything. I would try to avoid that and adding some expressions and re-using the layers over and over would do that.
