Displacement is part of the Pro version. You should have no problem getting it if you downloaded the correct trial version.

like yikesmikes said – AE will rasterize features that cannot be exported as vectors. Since it writes out legacy SWF types (equal to Flash 6), each single frame gets embedded as a JPEG or PNG image which add up substantially to filesize. A better way is to export a uncompressed clip or FLV and let Flash handle the rest (assuming you have access to it, that is).

Nope, can’t do. You would have to have v1, run a script to get the values of each effect, then open the project and replace missing v1 effect with instances of v2 based on the data gathered by the script. Since you obviously don’t have v1, this kinda is a causality paradox and thus a completely pointless comment on my part. *lol*

You zap around the different viewports and use your eyesight. C4D does not support realtime collision detection for modeling like Truespace or Carrara, so it’s all up to you.

November 4, 2006 at 9:40 am in reply to: Newbie question about importing tracking data from AE…Unfortunately you are asking for the one thing where C4D (or any other 3D tool for that matter) doesn’t really have any way of knowing what to do with your data. Apart from not easily being able to get it into C4D (there is a way, though: copy the position data to Illustrator, it will come in as paths; then import your AI file as splines in C4D; from there you can use the alighn to spline tag or other tools), you still have the one problem: C4D does not know where in the depths of its scene the points are supposed to be. If your camera is locked, you should still be able to align it manually, but as sson as it moves, the matchmoving could become a major pain. So if you want to see it that way, your process is flawed. If it’s an option and you have the tiniest bit of money, get a 3D tracking software (SynthEyes is only 400 bucks). It will give you a selection of formats that you can import into both C4D and AE which will make the entire process much smoother. Once you have worked that out, getting yopur data from C4D to Ae is smooth as a baby’s ass, but you know that alreadym, I assume.

Hey Adam, thanks. Be seeing you around. and for anyone worried: More articles are coming and I’m already working hard on them now that my cold is gone.

This sounds entirely like a compression problem and depending on what CoDec you use, this behavior is normal and inevitable. Only uncompressed CoDecs will not have any block artifacts but of course result in much larger file sizes. Anyway, AE isn’t that terribly well suited for creating compressed stuff, so if you really must (which I don’t believe, since you are rendering to NTSC res and probably use your stuff in a video) get external Tools like ProCoder or Sorenson Squeeze.

After you’re through with your project you definitely should take a look at it to see how it could have helped. There is even a pre-made project with butterflies.

November 4, 2006 at 9:13 am in reply to: The number 23 – opening titles – how is this done? Not sure what you mean. Just watched the trailer and all I saw is some simple blendmmode trickery and some distortion effects with a dose of shine applied to it. Not sure if the actual movie titles are different from it. If so, please tell us where we can find some reference so we can advise.

Search this forum for “lipsync” and similar phrases, it has been discussed a few times, as has isolating separate channels on compound properties.
