  • Newbie question about importing tracking data from AE…

I’m trying to track a 3d object to a green-screened project in AE. I’ve figured out how to import the alpha-ed video into C4D, but don’t know how to get the tracking that I’ve done in AE to come across. Is there a simple answer or is my process flawed? Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately you are asking for the one thing where C4D (or any other 3D tool for that matter) doesn’t really have any way of knowing what to do with your data. Apart from not easily being able to get it into C4D (there is a way, though: copy the position data to Illustrator, it will come in as paths; then import your AI file as splines in C4D; from there you can use the alighn to spline tag or other tools), you still have the one problem: C4D does not know where in the depths of its scene the points are supposed to be. If your camera is locked, you should still be able to align it manually, but as sson as it moves, the matchmoving could become a major pain. So if you want to see it that way, your process is flawed. If it’s an option and you have the tiniest bit of money, get a 3D tracking software (SynthEyes is only 400 bucks). It will give you a selection of formats that you can import into both C4D and AE which will make the entire process much smoother. Once you have worked that out, getting yopur data from C4D to Ae is smooth as a baby’s ass, but you know that alreadym, I assume.

You can do it, but you need to use text editor. There’s a tutorial somewhere online maybe on c4 website?

We need a plugin, that would be cool – or an exporter from AEF

I actually found a forum in 3d Attack Magazine that showed how to do it, but required a plug in that someone created for 3d attack. I’ve ordered the issue & can’t wait to try it out. It’s not easy, you even need Microsoft Excel!, but would be worth it!

    I don’t know either.
