If you mean the God’s Eye animation, then it looks like it is simply multiple clones of the same footage layer statically arranged in a spiral pattern and then this pattern is rotated in its entirety. All other motion comes from the footage itself (which is some splashing water).

There is no relationship in absolute terms. What you actually would need to do is have some fixed points (e.g. the corners of the letter bounding box) and calculate their relation in worldspace compared to the anchorpoint of the layer and the camera, figuring in the cameras zoom and whatnot. I think a while back Dan provided some simple code that would match a 3D layer so it fills the entire comp. If you can dig it out, it may be a place to start. However, unless there is urgent reason to be mathematically precise, matching things by hand might still be a better choice. It will simply look more organic and thus more endearing.

Make sure you use UVW as your projection type on the Sweep NURBS object (which should be the default method). Other than that use the Stick Texture tag, just like Nolan said.

November 9, 2006 at 6:48 am in reply to: frustration – why doesn’t caps lock cancel screen preview??No, your logic is wrong. C-lock is a modifier key used in concert with other keys or commands, not an exclusive command. How should that possibly allow you to cancel renders halfway thru? I know it sucks, but unless there will be explicit commands for rendering like, say in Shake, I don’t see a way to change that.

You can also try to consolidate your OMF or whatever to an empty drive. This way you’ll know which references have been used (that’s assuming you have the luxury of an empty video drive just for this purpose, of course) and using a simple copy would then do the trick. When you restore the project, you’d only need to put everything back in place so tzhe references work again… Might be worth considering.

Quite frankly your idea seems hairbrained and I wouldn’t bother with any expressions – creating the code will be complex and prone to errors (you’d have to have at least one if(){} statement for each pose, which could be a lot). Either keyframe the time remap directly or use different clips.

Use Roughen Edges, then apply Erodilation from ObviousFX (which is freely downloadable) in Radial mode. This will give some instant rounding. You could also try to isolate your edges and use particles. If you have Particular, it’s quite easy.

I wouldn’t bother doing this stuff in 3D. Usually you have much more control in compositing by aligning masks and tweaking parameters.
