[StormDave] “This didn’t happen with previous versions of AE where there was no graph…gotta get used it it.”

Na, I doubt it. Check Aharons videos on how to avoid the “boomerang” effect. Perhaps in your old AE, default interpolation was simply set to linear so it didn’t occur.

Set your spline mode to “Uniform” and use very high values. This should give better tesselation results and eventually get rid of the popping polygons. If that still fails, convert your text to polygonal geometry and Subdivide it manually (Structure –> subdivide).

Make sure your comps have square pixels. Particular does not work properly on anamorphic comps. Also don’t use continuously rasterize on your 3D comps when you nest them, thsi will also screw positions. (Particular somehow is unable to calculate the emitter positions in such a scenario).

Digital Anarchy’s Anarchy Toolbox contains a tool for this (Path Distort). Depending on the shape, you might try AE’s own Bezier Warp, Mesh Warp or CC Bend.

Use a duplicate of the layer (or more specifically the lights that are supposed to glow) and put it on top of your normal layer using blendmodes such as Add or Screen. Animating opacity should give some good results. Of course you can use additional glows as well.

Good old Vegas effect. If that doesn’t serve, use Auto Trace and apply a Stroke effect.

just like Steve said – you can’t possibly avoid preparing your artwork first. Once you have converted your type, so many more options open up. Depending on what letters you use, you may even get away with simple soft-edged wipes. There is also some artsy stroking effect based on masks (it’s called Scribble, I believe) which should give you some interesting results when used as a track matte.

  • There’s an even simpler solution:

    framesToTime(index)
