Hi Ryan,
The Dongle updater should work. Once you are through with the update, you will need to run the “dongle Dumper” application inside the utilities folder to see the version that the dongle supports. Your dongle should report that the version is 4.x. You can run any version upto 4.6.x. To run Xpress Pro HD (ver 5.x), you will need to buy an upgrade again and request for another dongle updater from Avid.

July 29, 2005 at 6:15 am in reply to: Matte Key Effect Parameters…how do I apply to other Keys????Hi Jason, Select the segment tool (red button) from the bottim of the timeline and double click on the clip that has the matte key and the warp effect. This will open up a sub track with the warp. Select just that clip and go to effect editor and drag the purple effect icon to your bin for saving the preset. Now go to the other clip that has the matte key and double click on it in segment mode. Now drag and drop the effect preset from the bin to the new sub track. HTH

Hi Grinner, There is one way you can do a thourough maintenance on your drives without losing data to performa a complete format (low level). This process takes time and I suggest you run it when you have atleast 6 to 7 hrs free time. Go to Start > Run > type “cmd” and click on enter > this will open the command prompt. > Type CD\ and enter > Enter the Drive Letter for eg., Z: and enter > now type “chkdsk/R” > the system will ask you if you want to force a dismount of the volume > Type “N” for no > enter. Now the system will ask you if you want to schedule this disk check when the system restarts ? Type “Y” for yes. > Now type “exit” and this window will close. Restart your computer and windows will perform a complete disk maintenance. Good luck

Hi aplusjimages, Right click on the timeline to revel the timeline settings and go to the “edit” tab > and select “Auto patching” and once you do this, any active video source track (V1) will automatically patch to the active video track on the time line (V1 or V2 or V3…. which ever is highlighted). Now in your case, you need to highlight V1 on your source side and select V2 on the timeline and de-select V1. You will notice that the source V1 has automatically patched to V2. Now drag the source clip from the source monitor and place it on V2. (Happy editing)

Hi. Like you figured, there is no link between the Avid application and the ‘orphaned files’. What you could probably do is this… This will require you to use the Avid application as well as the Windows functions. Open each project that is being currently worked on and go to the bin/s where the footage has been captured. (Master Clips) Select each item and right click > and select “reveal File”. This will open up a Windows Folder with the OMFI Mediafile relating to the clip highlighted. Now, Manually open another folder called “AMFI MediaFiles” for eg. and move this file to that folder. Once you are done, Avid will ask you whether to reveal the next file. Say YES and then repeat this process. The reason why you are moving all the clips that you are using to this new folder “AMFI MediaFiles” is to make sure you are not going to delete them. Make sure you do that will all Audio as well as Effects source clips. At the end of everything, what ever is left inside the Original Media Files folder are the clips that are not being used / belong to old project that have already been deleted. Now you can safely delete them and restore the backed up OMFI files to the original location. Once you are through, make sure you delete all database files for the clips to get relinked agian. This will take time, but apparantly is the only way to do it. Please note that this is possible only with the Avid.

This happens on most Dell’s. What you need to do are 2 things.
1) Right click on “My Computer” > Properties > Advanced > Startup & Recovery .. Click on “Settings” and choose “edit” under it. This will open up a note pad with the below text:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
change it to the following. Only the last bit “AlwaysOff”. A and O will be capital letters. No spaces inbetween.
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect /NoExecute=AlwaysOff
Then, save this file and close all the windows by accepting “OK”. Restart your machine.
2) Right click on “My Computer” > Properties > System Restore > and “Turn Off System restore on all drives” and click on “Apply” wait for a while and click “OK” to the rest of the windows and close them all.
I would suggest a restart at this point too. Try this and let me know.
