I have just bought and installed AVID Xpress Pro 4.6. Now though, when I start the program I get this message:

“No Dongle was found. Please connect a valid dongle to this computer to ensure proper operation.”

I went to AVIDs website and reinstalled the drivers for the dongle — that didn’t work. Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled the program — that didn’t work. I downloaded a program called “dongle dumper” but it said it could not find any valid dongle. When I install the dongle, Windows XP Pro recognizes it immediately. But each time I open AVID Xpress Pro I get the same message. Also, something that might be noteworthy, I had a version of AVID Xpress DV 3.5 on my computer, which I uninstalled before installing AVID Xpress Pro. Plesae help! I need to start using this software ASAP. Thanks so much in advance.

    Hi Ryan,

Have you contacted Avid’s tech support? You should still be in the period when you get free help, and they’re usually the ones to talk to about dongle issues.

    Carl,

Because it’s an academic version, I don’t think they offer support over the phone. I tried calling them and when I entered my system ID, the automated voice told me my service has expired.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

Call back and speak to a human being and explain the situation. As long as you paid for the system, you should be able to get this worked out with Avid.

    good luck,
    Carl

Is the new version a upgrade or a new full copy?

It’s a brand new version. Thanks. By the way, AVID has sent me a dongle updater software. I’m wondering if the old version of AVID I had on my computer is messing up the dongle software. Hopefully this will fix it. Thanks.

Just go to the sentinel USB site and get the latest drivers. The Avid drivers are not current. Just make sure to do a custom install and turn off the SuperPro server install. The directions are very straight forward, and it works.

    Hi Ryan,

The Dongle updater should work. Once you are through with the update, you will need to run the “dongle Dumper” application inside the utilities folder to see the version that the dongle supports. Your dongle should report that the version is 4.x. You can run any version upto 4.6.x. To run Xpress Pro HD (ver 5.x), you will need to buy an upgrade again and request for another dongle updater from Avid.
