I own both, and I’ll go with the concensus here. The 5D works better than I imagined it would, but I do find it less forgiving on Green screen work than the HVX200. The 200 does green screen quite well (I’d hate to count how many GS shoots I’ve done with it).
Of course that assumes that you’ve lit properly for it in the first place. Still, we are all going to end up doing GS work on a DSLR eventually, so we should probably get good at it…

The new one still snaps on and off… it just has a far more secure mounting bracket (Gorilla bracket), which I much prefer. Given it’s price, something more than adhesive tape is appreciated.
I also find it simpler to just loosen the two thumb screws to remove it. I think that will still be a secure mount, long after snapping it on and off has taken it’s toll on the previous design…

I’d agree. The new Z-finder Pro is even better… I have the 2.5x.
As far as “worth every penny”, as much as it pains me to say this, I’d say that applies to everything Zacuto makes. I’ve tried many others rigs and accessories, but nothing else compares, design-wise or for flexibility. I really hate it when something expensive is really worth it… 🙁

Ours was all P2 720p. Matched LT w/ FCP and still no joy…
Might try some work-a-rounds based on your approach…

I discovered this the day I installed FCS3. They said you could keep LT, which is true, but it’s no longer useful. Anything created in LT looks like crap in FCP7. It looks fine in previous versions of FCP. You can go into Motion and create the exact same title and it will look fine in FCP7. Go back and duplicate in LT and it looks terrible in FCP7. I’m surprised more people haven’t noticed and reported it.

I’ll echo Walter’s comment. I’ve seen that using Pro-Res, which is why I stopped using it some time ago… especially Pro Res HQ.
Now with FCS3, we’re trying Pro-Res again (we’d like to use it). Now I’ve discovered a problem rendering where I get a “file already exists” error and it won’t render sections that were previously rendered. So far, I can’t reproduce that using something other than Pro Res (an admittedly unscientific test).
FWIW, I have been experiencing some audio popping too… I thought we were past that…

We ran into a variation on your first one immediately after installing FCS3 (still on 10.5.8). In our case there wasn’t a problem saving, but whenever we would try to render a section of the timeline that had been previously rendered, we would get a “file already exists” error and it wouldn’t render. Rendering is a pretty basic function… you just create a new file each time you render, but apparently FCP3 has a gatekeeper now.
We were using Pro-Res which could be a factor (not sure), but there are a couple of workarounds:
1) you could delete all your render files, but then everything has to be re-rendered.
2) we would copy all the clips to a new sequence. Strangely, this action would not only allow us to render in the new sequence, but the original sequence as well…

My point was that they can even play at all. I wouldn’t try to edit that way, but I find it interesting that it can find something (a codec) that I cannot locate manually that will play this? One wonders if Apple could build on this, especially since it appears Avid can edit these files natively (haven’t verified it myself).
