To be fair the same can be said of a lot of training. I bought an FCPX series and the first four chapters were all “getting ready to get ready”. Each chapter seems designed for someone who knows nothing about NLE’s. There is a lot of chapters, but not enough depth. Some remedial things are over-explained while more complex things are under-explained.

So, it seems to be the norm when you’re trying to make a single product to fit everyone. When you try and please everyone you often end up pleasing no one…

The old adage that “nothing is free… it may be unpriced, but it isn’t free” is more true today than ever.

Try explaining that to young people today. They have an absolute blind faith in all technology and trust everything in the cloud, starting with FaceBook and Google and going downhill from there.

Yeah Steve, I got it in 10.0.3, but I wasn’t checking often enough to determine how long or what might have contributed. I was hoping it was gone, so I wasn’t really looking for it.

So my list is still:

1) Undo bug (autosave bug – give is a manual save!

2) Keyframe ability in the color corrector!

Of course, an increase in the spinning beach balls in 10.0.3 fix would be nice too.

I guess if you’re working in a void making event videos you can get away with it, but if you’re working with corporate clients at all eventually someone hands you an illustrator file or a psd”

$600 is a lot for an upgrade. Most people will use some (or several) of the Adobe apps, but very few people use all those apps every single week. I think the point you’re missing is look what FCS gave you for a $300 upgrade. All those apps that were all video related. I used them all, save one, every single week. When they added the formerly $25K Color program, the price didn’t budge one bit. I think this is the point that people might be making?

I’ve spoken to Adobe about this… they know that their upgrade pricing isn’t popular… and Lance, Steve, et al are right IMO, the 5.5 update was overpriced in my unqualified opinion…

[Ben Holmes] “All NLEs (especially FCP7) suffer from some slowdown with larger project sizes. Avid has always done better with them, thanks to it’s file and metadata management, but the others have always been much of a muchness.”

I did a lot of 2 hour shows in FCP7 (even longer actually), and while it slowed a bit, it doesn’t seem to be anywhere near what people report here with FCPX.

Some go these programs had 30 layers, all had color correction, effects, etc. I think we’re talking a different thing altogether in FCPX. In it’s defense, it does try to load up everything in the known universe, and the database is doing a lot more…
