There is too much bull in this tread to deal with all of it but I’ve done a few successful insert edits from FCP. Starting with version 1.2.5

From the workflow point of view HDV is the crappiest of things that happened to us in a long time. Betacam SX was heavily compressed MPEG but at list the decks’ gears and brains were good. Digital-S had flimsy mechanics but the codec was great. HDV is just pain in the ass. There is a very slim chance it is possible to batch recapture with device control but I’m afraid you will need to reconstruct the whole program manually.

Command-Shift-X ripple-cuts. Command-Shift-V inserts (ripple pastes). Delete (Backspace) leaves the gap, Shift-Delete closes. There is a consistency.

Hey, why aren’t we all going crazy speculating about FCP 6 after your find? Are they 10-bit?

The only part of the bright future you’ve painted that doesn’t sounds quite right is “MPEG2 is more efficient than DCT”. IMX at 50 mbit/sec is nowhere near DigiBeta at 90 mbit/sec. I wouldn’t say it is worse than DVCPR50 because my IMX mileage is thousands of hours and DVCPRO50 is a couple of dozens but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone said it is.
