It works, just make sure you calibrate Playback Offset in FCP Device Control. I didn’t check with current version but after FCP 3 – FCP 4 (if I remember correctly) update I had to put some ridiculous number like -13 frames in there. In earlier versions it was -2.

I’d prefer an article slamming FCP for real deficiencies and bugs rather than one saying FCP is cute little thing but lacks almost everything an editor needs to use daily.
Avid vs. FCP articles by Loren S. Miller and Patrick Inhofer on Ken Stone site are much better because the authors know FCP well. Hopefully they get updated for current version of the app.

If you make really big noise Apple will add “24@25 Speedup” setting in Playback Control eventually. Like in FCP 8. It took several years of pestering them with feedback, feature requests, petitions and visits to get through the idea that there are films made outside the States so they added “24@25 Pulldown”. I’m not sure what really did the work. Probably someone at Apple was going through the Shake registration log and was really impressed half of the entries listed New Zealand as a country of residence.

If snapping is on you can overrun it temporarily by holding Command key. May be we should file the request for it to work the other way around too. In that case though I’d prefer the override function mapped to the Option key for consistency with Override Linked Selection Setting.

This is the issue you will face. Everything else should be fine.

The situation with consumer CRT TV’s isn’t much different. We grade at 6500K while most of the TV’s are set much cooler, around 8000. I guess it is better to grade to some standard than to grade to no standard.

24@25 PULLDOWN is smooth. 24@25 REPEAT is jerky and intended for slower machines. 4.2% Speed up in FCP was available only with Aurora Igniter hardware. What is the codec of your footage?
