so i unplugged my external firewire drive.
    left eh camcorder plugged in.
    rebooted.
now FCP works fine with my camcroder.

    never had a problem before.

is there a problem with havin gthe scratch disks, and project on the external drive when using firewire preview witha camcorder on an imac 2.16 with 2 firewire ports?

    whats a good workaround?

how do i determine that? today i will try a new cable. but what about the firewire ports?

i changed the port on teh back of the computer. i have 2. and it still does it.

i guess i could bring the camera in to work to see if the blocks still there on my avid?

they are really big. its a really big block that has stair stepps on the outside that fills the top left of the screen. and another big one on the bottom right of the screen. then there are a few straggler small blocks that blink.

i can see the video image behind the blocks inbetwen the top left and bottom right.

they stay in the same place.

i highlight the track with the timewarp filter. hit effect mode. and the effect editor comes up and it is empty.

im used to the effect editor coming up and having controls – so i can change the speed interpretation to fluid motion, blended interpolated, etc.

    whats wrong?

no its in my firewire on my Imac 2.16. biut i do have a hardrive pluged in the other FW port. with one daisy chained to that.

so one port has two drives on it, the other port has camera.
