August 26, 2008 at 3:56 pmYou must determine whether it is caused by the cable, the camera, or the FW port on either end of the pipe.
Then you can start looking at software.bogiesan
This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

August 26, 2008 at 3:58 pmYes Milton, but how are the blocks?
How big? Are always in the same place?

August 26, 2008 at 4:33 pmthey are really big. its a really big block that has stair stepps on the outside that fills the top left of the screen. and another big one on the bottom right of the screen. then there are a few straggler small blocks that blink.
i can see the video image behind the blocks inbetwen the top left and bottom right.
they stay in the same place.

i changed the port on teh back of the computer. i have 2. and it still does it.
i guess i could bring the camera in to work to see if the blocks still there on my avid?

August 26, 2008 at 4:57 pmWithout connecting the camera to the computer, play back the tape and see if you see blocks. If you see blocks, it’s the tape. If not, restart your computer and try again.

Two ports but only one FW bus so the two ports have to share the resources.
I’m afraid the iMac don’t let you install any kind of extra FW card.
Anyway i think you shouldn’t be having problems for monitoring and editing with a FW800 bus.
I’ve been working few years with an TiBook 667 with a couple of HD and the DV camcorder in the end of the chain for monitoring. No problems and the FW bus was only FW400.
