June 11, 2012 at 7:59 pm in reply to: Need Recommendations on Books that Teach the Art of Storytelling through Videographer’s Lensthat makes sense but i see a lot of videos out there now that use a slider system. tons of shots are sliding all over the place. left to right, up to down, etc.
when and why do videographers choose to use that type of shot?
also, if you are videotaping someone using a computer. do you use a wide angle with the person and computer and background in focus or do you move back and zoom in to compress the shot so only computer screen is in focusing.
those are the things i am struggling understanding. which shot to choose and why.
i see lots of videos that are mostly shallow depth of field. only the person is in focus everything else out of focus. it is a great shot but the whole video looks like that. is that a good thing or bad thing? i don’t know that is why i am asking this stuff.

June 11, 2012 at 12:56 pm in reply to: Need Recommendations on Books that Teach the Art of Storytelling through Videographer’s Lensi don’t produce films. i produce corporate style videos.
i work for a college now and produce videos that have a student talking and then add Broll over top. I want to capture better looking Broll shots.Right now I just wing it. For example, I am creating an orientation video for new employees. A manager is talking about the recreation center. I shot Broll of the areas he talk about. All of the are mostly wideshots of the areas so I could get it all into frame. Is that a good choice or bad choice? That is my question. I am not sure how a videographer decides on which shot take and from what angle and what depth of field.
All of the shots are from normal height. Should I have gone from above eye level instead? or below?
Those are the questions I am asking myself and wondering the answers to. Instead of winging it taking 4 variations of the same shot I’d like to know instinctually what is the best shot to get which would save me time.
Does this help?

i think i fixed it. my scratch disks were set to a spot with little disk space left. i changed them and now i am getting audio. at least for my small test.
why does Premiere keep changing my scratch disks? is there a way to set globally to a certain drive? they keep settig to my network drive.

March 11, 2011 at 9:01 pm in reply to: What is a good computer set up for editing AVCHD?Its slow as as in, when i render mysequence it goes a little bit then stops. i have to keep hitting the render button over and over again. keeps quitting.
Im using a 1280×720 sequence with a mix of that size footage and 1920×1080 resized to fit. All AVCHD footage from a JVC camcorder.
When I render or export my CPU usage goes up to 100%. It bogs down my whole computer. Sometimes even afterwards my computer is soooo slow. I noticed when Premiere is open my RAM usage is at 2.8 GB out of 3GB installed.
I dont do alot of editing to justify a 1,000 computer upgrade. But can i intall better RAM and some other graphics card?? I dont know about this stuff.
Here are my specs:
Optiplex 780
intel core 2 duo cpu e8400 3.00ghz
3 GB Ram
64 bit operating system WIndows 7
Under Device manager > Dispplay Drivers it says “ATI Radeon HD 3450” not sure if that is an external one or attached to motherboard??Freelancer Designer Virginia – StephenHockman.com

it helps but why is it acting that way? doesnt make sense.
i put another video track with audio over top of my V1 track to test it out and it will work correctly. but once i add an audio only track music it does not work right.

im confused by what you said.
it seems I have to have the sync lock “on” every track. if i have “off” one audio track 2, mark in and out and select video 1 and audio 1, and extract, it leaves a hole.
if i turn sync lock back on audio 2, and extract it works right.
how do i prevent audio track 2 from extracting as well? I’m trying to create a video montage to a music track.
