Thanks everyone, problem solved. I took the audio into compressor and made
a quicktime audio file out of it and laid it in timeline. But thanks for all your interest. COW far and away the best place for editing help.

Thank you for trying to help, guys…
This is what MPEGStream shows me the characteristics are
    which I want
    and which I can’t import into fcp7

    Video Tracks:
    Apple ProRes 422, 1280 × 720, 29.97 fps, 61.45 Mbps

    Audio Tracks:
16-bit Big Endian stereo, 48 kHz, 1.54 Mbps

(no problem fcpx, but if i make an .mov in fcpx and import into fcp7
    still won’t read audio???)

Thanks Shane, I’ll give it a try.
What frame rate do you recommend, 23.98 or 29.
    from FCP7 timeline on down?

Streamclip converts some of these files, but not all.

    I’ve become intrigued with fcpX
seems it will take material in any form
quick from MPEG or MP4 from Handbrake.
Now all I have to do is spend a day or two with fcpX tutorials.

Thanks Kylee. May actually try fcpX with this one. Have to try it some time
and it seems to pull in material in different forms more readily….
something like DVD > HANDBRAKE > MPEG > FCPX in prores
then I’ll check out what form for Vimeo
    Sound too complicated?

Want to try other editing software for new projects… Adobe, Avid, even FCPX, among other reasons.

    Jerry, thank youi.
No shot reels, no neg. 35mm print only one in existence.
The main zooming is rescanning each shot in fcp7 to 16:9 from 3:4
Only looking for dvd and streaming reissue.
Altho some people would like to project it digitally in a theatre.
AND LOOKING TO KEEP MY COSTS DOWN to around 2g.
    Further thoughts???

January 22, 2011 at 8:58 pm in reply to: Best way to convert digi-beta to FCP

    Thanks David Weiss and all.
The film was cut on a movieola — a 35mm projector for editing rooms with a 5 ” screen . The rattle of the movieola was so loud it was like editing under machine gun fire.
The digibeta was made from a print off the original negative. I’ll bring it into ProRes 422 and go from there.
(Which I want to do because I love the film, Coming Apart ~ Rip Torn and Sally Kirkland’s performances in it and my own quite original concept.)
    Thanks for the help!
